GUNSLINGER is a high flying sharp shooter that will not back down from the competition. Scott Hartsock, owner and driver of the sunrise colored monster truck, GUNSLINGER, got into the sport when he was four wheeling for fun. "My regular truck gradually turned into a monster truck, " says Hartsock.
Only nine years ago Hartsock was a Florida gunsmith who simply enjoyed driving as a hobby. When he decided to start calling his own shots and drive for a living, Hartsock created the monster truck, GUNSLINGER to reflect his career.
GUNSLINGER is a 1999 Ford F150 body painted red, yellow, and white by artist, Scott Jones. Hartsock himself crafted the chassis. It supports a blown alcohol injected, 557 cubic inch Ford SVO engine that outputs 1,400 horsepower and a C6 automatic transmission. The Kuster suspension system allows for 18 inches of travel when the truck shoots over a line of crushed cars.
"I like turning courses," says Hartsock, "especially the RCA Dome; it's the mecca of all racing. The World Finals in Las Vegas, Nevada is right up there with the best of them as well!" Hartsock feels he could have taken the 2000 World Finals in Las Vegaas. However, a bit over anxious - he lost it in the final turn. Even though he lost the war, he still won many of the battles throughout the year long TNN point series, enough to place second overall.
All that time in the shop working on the truck, traveling, and trying to be a good husband and father may someday take it's toll on Hartsock. If for some reason Scott was not able to drive, he hopes that his son would follow in his footsteps and take over driving GUNSLINGER.
GUNSLINGER weighs a total of 9,500 pounds. The custom built truck travels from race to race in its own kind of holster; an International custom motor home with plenty of truck hauling space in the trailer and all the comforts of home for Hartsock, his crew and his family.
