~Sweet Sixteen~
What? Sixteen years old?
Can you be that already?
It seems but a year ago,
You slept with your teddy.
Now you’ve started dating
With your friends running ‘round
You’re still just a baby
Grandma says with a frown.
I’m just not quite ready
For your growing up my dear
Would you really mind waiting
At least one more year?
You should still be wearing
Little bows in your hair
And holding tight to my hand
As we climb the stairs.
So wait a weeeee bit longer
Give Grandma time to accept
The fact my little princess
Has given me the slip.
Oh My! I just realized
It has popped into my head
You’ve now driving a car
This can’t be....grandma said
Oh Me and Oh My....
Please tell me it’s not true
Thoughts of my princess growing up
Just have me so blue.
But you really must learn
No matter how old you grow
To your Grandma you’re her baby
This will always be so!
So as this sixteenth birthday comes
Celebrate with laughter and much joy
Grandma’s gift is on its way,
Hope you enjoy all your new TOYS!!
Dedicated to my Granddaughter (My Princess) Breanna Nichole, on
her 16th birthday. You’ll always be my little girl!!!
I love you sweetheart!
