This is a map showing the positions of the ships on D-day. The frontmost ship was a rocket ship then in order were the destroyers,Mansfield, DeHaven, Lyman K. Swenson, Collett, Gurke, and Henderson with their 5" guns. Then the cruisers HMS Kenya, the Toledo and Rochester with their 8" guns.( also present but not shown,the Jamaica ). Outside the harbour were the fleet carriers Philippine Seas and Valley Forge. Escort carriers,Sicily and Badoeng Strait. and the British carrier, Triumph. Note; Due to the damage that the Collett suffered on 13 September,the USS Southerland took her assigned position between the Gurke and Swenson.
