I rolled over for the hundredth time that night. I looked at the clock on the nightstand next to me and it read ‘1:15am’. I had only tried going to sleep two hours before that, but I couldn’t. I gave up on the whole sleeping thing and turned the light on. I got out of bed, put my sandals on, put my hair half up in a clip grabbed my key and left the room. I got onto the elevator and went all the way down to the lobby. Got off at the lobby, walked through the pool and to the beach. I walked down to the water and began to walk down the beach. If I wasn’t going to sleep, then I was going to walk and see if any ideas would come to me.
I just started thinking about my life, Shawn, and what we had. I loved Shawn more then anything and I couldn’t picture my life without him. He made me completely happy. I had the job that I’ve always wanted only no ideas to show for it. Or ideas that turn out bad. I wasn’t sure why I had writer’s block, I mean aren’t there usually reason that cause it? I couldn’t think of any that would at that moment. Maybe it would come to me in a dream, but I’d have to figure out that dream. Yeah, and that’s always fun. No, I don’t think so. It’ll end and I’ll get ideas soon.
I hoped anyway. That’s all I could d, was hope and pray something would come to me.
I walked pretty far down the beach, but I wasn’t planning on stopping anytime soon. It felt good being out there. I’ve never been on a California beach and it felt great.
My thoughts were jolted to a stop when I heard my name being called. Who in their right mind would be out here at this hour? Oh wait, don’t answer that. I’m out here too. So, never mind. I turned around and saw a figure running towards me. He got closer and I saw that it was Brian. Why was he out here? He caught up to me and we walked along the beach, together.
"What are you doing out here?" He asked.
"I could ask you the same thing?"
"I asked first."
"Ok, fair enough. I couldn’t sleep, so I thought a walk on the beach would help."
"Oh, ok. Well same pretty much. The guys and Kate aren’t back from going out and I just couldn’t get to sleep."
"You mean you didn’t go with them?"
"Nope, I didn’t feel like it. Wasn’t really in the mood. Although Kate did have a fit when I told her I didn’t want to go. But she understood."
"That’s good. I’m glad that she did. I didn’t feel like going either. Plus I wanted to call Shawn."
"That’s cool. It’s really awesome that you two have been together for so long. I’ve never met two people like that, besides Kevin & Kristin."
"Yeah, it’s weird. This is the longest relationship I’ve had. They normally last 6 months to a year."
"Wow, so this is different. That’s cool. All my relationships I’ve had have lasted 6 months to a year too. Sometimes not even that."
"Oh, I’m sorry."
"It’s ok, not your fault. I haven’t found the right one yet, but I’ll find her, don’t worry."
"Don’t worry, I won’t. What about Kate? You guys have been together for 6 months. That’s gotta be good."
"Yeah, it is. Although the guys don’t really like her. They tell me she’s just using me. But I don’t believe it."
"I don’t think she is. But I just met her, so.."
"True, but I know she’s not. She’s not like that."
"I’m sure." I smiled at him.
"So, what do you plan to write about?"
"I don’t know yet. It’s never been this hard before. I don’t know why either."
"Well, it’ll come to you. And if you ever need any help, you can always come to me and I’ll try my best to help you."
"Thanks, I’ll be sure you come to you for help. Ditto on that, ok?"
"Ok, deal. So, why couldn’t you sleep?"
"I’m not sure. I kept tossing and turning and couldn’t get comfortable. What about you?"
"I was thinking too much and if I do, I can’t sleep. So, I gave up on the whole sleeping idea tonight."
"Oh, well don’t you have a show tomorrow?"
"Yeah, but I don’t have to do anything ‘til around 4, so I’ll sleep in. It’s ok; I’ve done this before."
"Ok. I just don’t want you to get too exhausted and get sick. That’ll be bad."
"Yeah, I know. Nick gets sick all the time if he doesn’t get enough sleep."
"Yeah, I do too. So, I think we should head back. They’re probably back and you need to get some sleep."
"Yes ma’am." He saluted me and I hit him playfully on the arm.
"Don’t salute me, I’m not your mother or boss." He laughed.
"And thank god for that!" I slapped him again.
"I’ll race you back to the hotel."
"Deal." We ran to the hotel and he was a good 5 feet in front of me. We made it back in about 5 minutes, he of course, beating me. I have really got to get back into shape, coz this is just pathetic.
We got onto the elevator and went all the way up to the top floor. Kate and Kevin were standing in the hall. And Kate didn’t look very happy and neither did Kev. When Kate saw Brian, she ran up to him.
"Brian, where the hell have you been?" She whined.
"I couldn’t sleep, so I took a walk on the beach. I saw Les there too, so I joined her. We were talking."
"Why did you go to the beach without your bodyguard? It could have been dangerous."
"Katie, it’s 2 in the morning; no one is on the beach at this hour. We were the only ones out there. I was fine."
"Kate, he’s telling the truth. No one was out there, just him and me. That’s it."
"Ok, but don’t do that again, unless I’m with you. I don’t want you to get hurt." She kissed him on the cheek. They said goodnight and went into their room. Kevin walked up to me.
"How long were you guys gone?" He asked.
"For about an hour, maybe a little longer. I wasn’t tired and I wanted fresh air, I didn’t know he was out there, ‘til he caught up to me."
"I know, you don’t have to explain it to me. I was just beginning to get really annoyed with Kate. She kept whining about Brian and that he’d be hurt. Though she doesn’t really give a damn about him. She only wants him for his money and I don’t know why he can’t figure that out."
"Why do you think she’s using him? She seems so nice and seems to care about him a lot. Thought she does whine."
"You’ve only just met her. Wait ‘til you get to know her better and you’ll find out what she’s really like."
"I guess. Well, I think I’m finally tired, so I think I’m gonna go to bed. Night Kev."
"Night Les. See you in the morning."
He walked away, into his and Kristin’s room. I got my key out of my pocket and unlocked my door and walked into my room. And to my surprise the phone in my hotel room was ringing. I ran to the phone and picked it up.
"Hello?"
"Dude, you’re alive. That’s good to know." I heard the familiar voice of my best friend, Janie.
"Hey to you too. I got busy, they all wanted to have dinner with me and shit."
"Oh, you can have dinner with them and call your boyfriend, but you can’t call your best friend. I see how it is."
"Love the sarcasm, Jane."
"What can I say? I’m a bitch."
"You got that right."
"So, where were you? I called your cell phone and you didn’t answer and I’ve been calling your room every 15 minutes and same with Shawn."
"I couldn’t sleep, so I took a walk on the beach and Brian was out there too. And we talked for a while."
"Oh, ok. Just curious. I hope you know I have your boyfriend worried about you now."
"Thank you, Janie. Now he’ll be calling and checking on me. He’s gotta go to work at 7."
"Oops my bad. But I couldn’t get you."
"I know, and I’m sorry."
"So, how’s Cali?"
"It’s good. Warm and beautiful. Just like FL, only more crowded and bigger."
"Cool; wish I could be there. Oh, I was gonna ask you. Are any of the guys single?"
"Hmm...let’s see. Kevin is married, AJ has a girlfriend, Bianca, Howie does too, Niki, so does Nick, Shayla, and Brian does too, Kate. So, I’m sorry, but they all have girlfriends."
"Damn, oh well. I like Nsync better. That Joey turns me on."
"Gross. You need help Janie."
"Thanks; I love you too, Les."
"I know."
"Well, it’s late here and I’m sure Shawn is trying to call, so I’ll let you go. I’ll talk to you later."
"Yep, bye Janie."
"Bye Lessie."
I hung up and just as I did the phone rang again. I picked it up and put it to my ear.
"Hello?"
"Les, where have you been?" My loving boyfriend, Shawn spoke.
"The beach. I couldn’t sleep, so I took a walk on the beach. I forgot to call Jane, that’s why she called you. I’m ok and alive."
"Ok, just checking. I called your cell, but no one answered."
"That’s coz I didn’t hear it. I’ll check it out and see why. But I’m gonna let you go, coz you gotta get up soon and work. I’ll talk to you later. Take care. Love you. Bye."
"Bye hon. Love you too."
We hung up and I got my phone out of my pocket and looked at it. 6 missed called. Well, that’s great. What the hell happened to my phone? I checked the volume, it was all the way up. I picked up the hotel phone, dialed my cell phone # and waited. Nothing happened. It didn’t ring or anything. I hung up and placed the phone on the nightstand. I was now too tired to deal with it. I laid down on the huge king size bed, turned the light off and went to sleep.
The next day I woke up around 11:30 to someone knocking on my door. I lazily got out of bed and walked over to the door, opening it and revealing Brian.
"Hey, sorry did I wake you?" He apologized.
"Oh, now. It’s ok. I needed to be waken up or I would have slept all day."
"Ok. Well everyone went to the mall for a while. Well, actually I woke up 15 minutes ago, finding Kate and my credit card missing and everyone else. I called Kev and he said they all went to the mall. And I was seeing if you were still here or with them."
"Oh, ok. Well, as you can see I’m still here. When you left last night, I talked to Kevin for a few minutes, then when I went into my room the phone was ringing and it was my best friend Jane. We talked for a while, and then after I hung up the phone rang again. And it was Shawn. So, I didn’t get to sleep ‘til about 4. But I’m good."
"That’s good. So, you wanna go to the mall or do something? I needa get out of this hotel for a while."
"Yeah, sure. I needa get a new phone anyway, coz for some odd reason, mine stopped working."
"Ok, that’s fine. I’ll be back here in 20 minutes, that enough time."
"Yeah, that’s perfect. I’ll be ready by then."
"Alright, I’ll be here in 20 minutes. See ya."
"See ya." He turned and walked down the hall. I closed the door and went into the bathroom and got into the shower. 10 minutes later I got out, got dressed in my dark blue jeans and a light blue stretch tank top. I was about to brush my hair when the phone ran. I picked it up.
"Hello?"
"Hey baby, what’s up?"
"Hey hon. Not much. Just got out of the shower. How about you?"
"Just got home from work and wanted to call you."
"That’s sweet. How was work?"
"It was fine. Long day, but I’m gonna relax now."
"That’s good."
"So, what did you do today?"
"Well, it’s only 12:15 here and I woke up at 11:30. So I would say I took a shower and talking to you."
"Wow, sounds like fun. Ok then, what do you plan o doing?"
"I’m going to the mall with Brian in a few minutes and I’m gonna get a new phone or something coz mine doesn’t work. The ringer doesn’t, that’s why I didn’t hear it."
"Oh, ok. Have fun at the mall."
"I’ll try." I heard Shawn yawn on the other end. "Shawn, you gotta be exhausted. Why don’t I let you go? And get some sleep, ok?"
"Ok, if you don’t mind?"
"You know me, of course I don’t mind. Go and get some sleep."
"Alright, I’ll talk to you later. Have fun. Take care. Love you."
"Love you too. Sleep well." We hung up and just as I hung up there was a knock on my door. I got up and walked over to the door, unlocking and opening it. I saw Brian standing there, ready.
"Hey, looking good." He had on dark blue jeans and a light blue button up shirt, which brought out his blue eyes.
"Thanks, so do you."
"So, I take it you like the color blue?" I asked him.
"Yep, my favorite color. What about you?"
I just realized I was wearing pretty much the same colors as him. Talk about odd.
"Yep, fave color too."
"That rocks. So are you ready?"
"Yep, let’s go.
We headed downstairs and got into a cab that took us to the mall.
I got a new phone and we shopped for a few hours. Getting to know each other better. Brian is a total loon, he cracks me up. But he says the same thing about me. We went back to the hotel and Brain went to get ready for the show and so did I. The guys left early and the girls and I went later. The show rocked and after we went out to a club, just having fun.....
