...chapter 2...

"This is Paul Stevens, and you're listening to KLMN 103.7- The Buzz. And I'm here with a very special guest, Melissa Robinson. Glad to have you here Meliss," the DJ smiled across the small table.

"Glad to be here," she replied politely.

"So tell me, what's it like to have the number 3 single in the country?" Paul questioned.

"Well, it's amazing, to say the least. But it's not something you can actually feel, except repeating it over and over in your head. But it's definitely a cool feeling," she smiled. That didn't really make sense-but hey; she was nervous.

"What's it like to date Justin Timberlake?" Sandy Quinn, the other half of the tag team questioned. Both parties in the studio looked at her with a questioning glance. "Well, it usually follows the 'what's it like to have your single be...' question."

All three started laughing, and the intensity of the room calmed down. "So Ms. Robinson, tell me about your singing career."

"Well, I just came from Japan this morning. I had been there for almost 3 weeks. Before that I was in Sweden putting the finish touches on the album which is due out in a few weeks. And it's been nothing but a fun time. The crowds overseas are amazing," she sighed, remember what it was like in that foreign land.

"And what about the fans here?" Sandy interjected defensively, a smile appeared on her face.

"The fans here are incredible. And I had to talk to you guys about that-thanks for telling them my flight information, that was wonderful," she said pretended to sound mad. The two DJs smiled and apologized in unison, "No, I meant it. It really was wonderful. I had some good conversations with the girls there and I'm gonna keep in touch with them. So it was really cool. My manager wasn't too please, but hey, who gives a hoot about him," she said flashing a big smile over at James who was silenced by the soundproof glass.

"Tell me about your manager, are you two close?" Paul interjected.

"Yeah, we are. He's like my older brother. He's good to have around, cuz he knows what he's doing, but he's so young that he still knows how to have a fun time while he's doing it. So it's a comfortable feeling having him around," she replied.

"That's cool. So tell us about you," Sandy smiled. She had a radiant smile that could light up a room. It surprised Melissa that she was so pretty-most DJs weren't all that qualified in the looks department.

"Well, my name is Melissa Robinson. I'm going to be 18 in a few weeks. I've been singing since I was a wee little tot. I'm originally from Boca Raton, Florida-land a da snow birds! And, that's basically it, I think," she said, racking her brain for more info.

"Favorite color."

"Blue. No wait, pink."

"Favorite song."

"Of all time?"

"Yeah."

"Please Don't Go Girl by The One... The Only... New Kids On The Block, New Kids On the Block," she began to sing their name over and over again sending everything into fits of laughter, as the song filled the airwaves, she decided to sing along, "Please don't go girrrrrrrrlll. You would ruin my whollee woorrrlllld."

"That's not honestly your favorite song is it?" Paul questioned. "Ya know, being a musician I would think you had stronger roots than New Kids."

"Are you doubting my taste?" she said pretending to be offended. "I have you know New Kids On the Block was the greatest band to ever hit the airwaves," she was going to continue but she noticed the phone lines lighting up on the phone in front of her. "Oh dear, looks like I've started a controversy."

"But in all seriousness my favorite song of all time, besides 'Please Don't Go Girl,' has to be 'Unchained Melody,' by the Righteous Brothers, or 'At Last,' by Etta James," she smiled, just the thought of those songs made goosebumps rise in her skin.

"Well, I hear you do one slamming cover of that Etta James song, why don't you give it a whirl?" Sandy said in between answering phone lines and putting fans on hold.

"Yeah sure no problem," Melissa sat herself up straight and pulled the mic towards her as she began to sing...

At Last...
My Love has come along...
My lonely days are over...
And life like a song...

At Last
The skies above are blue...
My heart, was wrapped up in clovers...
The night I looked at you

I found a dream
That I could speak to
A Dream that I can call my own
I found a Thrill, oooh
To press my cheek to
A thrill that I have never known

Ohhh ooooooooh
You smile, you smile....
And then the spell was cast
And here we are, in Heaven
For you are mine.....
At Last...

The DJs stared in shock. This little girl, had this amazing voice, and although they had heard about the cover, the never thought it would be that good. Susan was the first to speak... "That's, That's...it's going on the album right?"

"Yeah, I hope so. I don't know what songs have made the cut yet," she smiled.

"It was amazing, God-if they don't put that on the album they're stupid," Paul inserted his opinion. "Well, why don't we take some fan questions..."

"Hey, you're on the air. Do you have a question for Melissa?"

"Yeah, I do. I was just wondering if you had met any celebrities you never thought you'd meet. Or which celebrities you'd really like to get your hands on?" the young girl listened intently for her idol to come on the line.

"Well, actually, working for Arista, I met Whitney Houston- never in my dreams did I think that would happen. She's amazing, to say the least. I'd really like to meet a lot of people. Joey McIntyre being one, hehehe... Just Kidding. Ummm, probably the guys of NSYNC, everyone says they're absolute sweethearts, and seem as though I'm already linked to Timberboy--hook it up," she let out a laugh...she totally amused herself. "OH And I'd definitely like to get my hands on some Ben Affleck, maybe a little Freddie Prinze Junior..."

"Oh you were meant to be my bestfriend," the girl replied on the phone. Everyone chimed in their laughter. "Well, thank you for answering my question, I just wanted to let you know that I've become an instant fan of yours. You have an amazing voice and I hope it takes you to places you've never dreamed of."

Melissa was stunned for a minute. "That was really sweet. Thank you very much," she replied. What a nice thing to say to someone...her thoughts continued.

"We'll take one more question before Melissa needs to hit the road-not that we're kicking you out or anything," Paul smiled over at the young girl.

"Oh no not at all," she replied sarcastically looking over at the man behind the panel throwing his wrist across his throat in a 'cut it' motion.

"Hey you're on the air, do you have a question?"

A young boy, about the age of 12 or so came on the line, "Hey, Melissa, I was just wondering if you had a boyfriend."

She could hear the excitement in his voice, "Are you offering or asking?"

The smile was almost evident through the phone, "I'm not too sure." He was thoroughly embarrassed, "It depends if you'd say yes or not."

"Well, I'm absolutely single, unless you call music my boyfriend," she smiled.

"Well, that's about it folks, thanks for listening, and we'll just have little Ms. Robinson introduce the next song."

"OK, well this is my first single 'Because Of Love' and thanks for all the love and support. Look for the album in a few weeks... I love you guys!" she said removing the headphones and placing them quietly on the table. She shook hands with both DJs as they continued to praise. "Best of luck to you-that voice, damn that voice is amazing," Susan replied.

"Thank you very much," she smiled, hugging the young woman.

"I would tell you to succeed but I'm pretty sure you can do that on your own," Paul said pulling Melissa into a tight hug.

"Thank you again guys for having me, hopefully I'll be able to come back again."

"Oh definitely," And with that she left the studio-on her way back to another night in a hotel bed.

"Well, that was fun," she smiled, wrapping her arms around James. "I'm kinda glad you didn't tell me about it- I would've stressed out over nothing."

"Yes, and I know you all too well," he smiled down at his first accomplishment, and hurried her out behind Bruce and Boots, Tony was waiting out by the mini van. Apparently a few fans gathered outside the studios hoping to get a glimpse of the new star. They ran out to van, and she waved to her devoted fans through tightly sealed windows.

As soon as she hit the seat of the van, she was out like a light. She slept the whole way back to their hotel. Once again she had a relatively early flight out, but this time it was to Orlando. She was gonna make a quick stop back at the studios, and drive to Boca from there. She was extremely excited to be going back to the studio. That was her favorite part of working the circuit.

It was getting pretty late, and by the time they got back to the hotel there were only three or four fans outside. Unfortunately, they didn't get to see their shinning pop princess because Bruce was too busy carrying the limp, still sleeping body, up to her room. James opened the door and Bruce rushed her to the bed. "This puts new meaning to the word princess," Bruce smiled letting himself out of the room.

"Night boys," Melissa said in a hushed tone as she heard the body guards leave. James stayed behind. "Sweetheart, you can sleep in tomorrow morning, but I want you to get dressed dressed. No jeans and a T-shirt tomorrow. We're gonna be going back to Orlando and imagine the amount of TV crews and News reporters that'll be there. So just make em happy and wear something cute. God, we need to get you a wardrobe person so I don't have to feel like an idiot telling you what to wear," he smiled when her faint giggle came through her sleeping lips. "Good night angel," he said letting himself out of the room.

Her thoughts floated away into a dreamy realm and wasn't awoken until her cellphone rang. Her eyes shot open and she looked at the clock, "7:30? You call this sleeping in." She raised the phone to her ear, and reiterated, "This is not what I call sleeping in."

"Well, what do you call it," the young man replied. She didn't recognize the voice and suddenly became very scared, she felt...violated. "Who is this?" she shot back.

"Well, according to you- I think you referred to me as 'Timberboy'. And in case you were wondering... It's TimberMan to you," he replied, you could almost hear the smile coming through the phone.

"Wow, news travels fast," she smiled. Her words got stuck in her throat, as she tried to spit em out. It was too early. Her heart raced at just the fact that he was calling her.

"You have no idea. You're playing with the big boys now Meliss, and I have a publicist who is paid to sit around and listen for my name places," he started to laugh.

"So, that's how you heard it, huh?" she smiled, and sighed lightly, a little embarrassed.

"Yup, and the reason I called was because my publicist informed me that if I didn't call you, she'd break my neck," he smiled.

"Why's that?" she questioned innocently.

"She says you have one of the most amazing voices, and I just had to hear it myself. And judging by the cute way you keep sighing... I think she's right."

Thoughts start racing through her head. Why is he hitting on me? This is a joke right, candid camera. All right everyone-jokes over y'all can go home.

"Well, thanks," she sighed again, just for bonus points, "I guess."

"I'll cut to the chase. The real reason I'm calling you is to see if you'd like to have lunch with me today. I'd kinda just show Ya around, and tell Ya a few things about the business so you don't find them out for yourself-the hard way."

"So it's kinda like a Senior showing around the freshman to her new school," she replied sarcastically.

"Yeah, something like that," he smiled. She rolled her eyes, "Well, I think I'll pass, but thanks for the offer. I'm going back to Orlando today anyway."

"That's where I am, hot shot," he replied meeting her sarcastic tone.

"I'm heading back home, after my day in the studio. So unless you want to really let everything loose and come with me on a four hour trip to Boca, I think we'll have to reschedule."

"All right, well that's your choice. Don't say I didn't try to be nice," he replied, clicking off the phone.

She continued to stare at it. That had to be one of the most bizarre moments of her life. Talk about random people. She crawled out of bed, and hopped into the shower. When she reemerged a few minutes later, she saw her phone flashing, she picked it up and dialed her voice mail. She listened to the quiet message as she rummaged through her duffle bag.

"Hey Meliss... It's Justin again. Just in case you change your mind, the guys and I have the day off-so you're more than welcome to come with...gimme a call," the message continued.

'I don't have your number, smartguy,' she thought to herself.

"And oh yeah the number-well it's on your phone."

She clicked end and scanned through the incoming calls, and sure enough there it was. Her friends back home were never going to believe this. Not even for a second. Hell, she didn't even believe it. But the strange thing is, she still couldn't figure out why he was calling her, of all people. There had to be a catch, Justin Timberlake didn't just ask random girls out on dates-especially not girls like her.

She continued to ring out her hair and find an outfit that wasn't jeans a T-shirt. She found a floral printed skirt and matching top. It was a little wrinkly, but it would have to do. She slipped it on, and walked over to the phone just as there was a knock on the door. She smiled, knowing it was James, because she was just about to call him. "Good morning, oh hey-you're already to go. Good, cuz then we can leave earlier."

"Why would we do that?" she smiled.

"So you can get out of the studio sooner and go out with Timberboy," he replied taking in the noticeable twitch he got from her when he said his name.

"How do you know about that?" she said letting him in.

"Well, it's not like his publicist just looked up your name in the phone book," he smiled. "So what did he say?" for some reason he was incredibly interested-more so than she was-in what the popstar had to say for himself.

"Just that he wanted to take me out to lunch," she replied grabbing an apple that James had brought with him and taking a huge bite out of it.

"And, so where are you going," he smiled, he was like a high school girl waiting for the newest gossip.

"I'm not," she replied mouth full of apple.

"Maybe I heard you incorrectly, but I just think you said that you're not," he replied. She nodded in agreement. "Why the hell not?"

"Well, I figured Ya know-his first time around he should get shot down. No sense in letting him believe he's God, its bad enough he thinks it," she smiled leaving the room and entering the bathroom.

"Well, what did he say," James questioned again. She was starting to get a little aggravated. "Well, he didn't say much-just that guys had the day off, and that if I changed my mind after the studio to give him a call."

"Boy is she in for a surprise," James smiled, thoroughly amused with himself.
