Walter L. Adent, 87, passed away at 7 a.m., Tuesday (June 8, 1999) at Sand Lake Hospital in Orlando, Fla.
Mr. Adent had spent the past three years in Orlando with his youngest son John and his family. Previous to his move to Orlando, Mr. Adent resided in Bourbonnais for 29 years.
Born and raised in Chicago by Paul and Maryanne Adent, who are deceased, Mr. Adent was one of seven sons and two daughters. On Sept. 9, 1939 he married his wife, Helen, who died in 1981.
Shortly after his marriage, he moved to Cabery and began the family business. He and his late wife owned and operated the first modern supermarket, Adent's Grocery in Cabery, for 12 years during the late 50s and early 60s, where they raised their three children.
After selling the business and semi-retiring, Mr. Adent worked at Roper Corporation, Kankakee until his permanent retirement in the late 70s. After retiring, the Adents spent their time with their children and grandchildren.
Surviving are his eldest son, William Adent and wife Barbara of Schaumburg; youngest son John and his wife Lana of Orlando, Fla.; son- in-law, John Leszczewicz, husband of the late Virginia, Mr. Adent's daughter, of Bourbonnais; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, Christine Ulibarri, husband John and their three children Nicole, Amanda and Curtis of St. Charles, Debra Packard, husband Darrel and their two children, Samantha and Sarah of Schaumburg, Greg Adent and wife Amy of Elk Grove, Arlene Leszczewicz of Sullivan, Mike Leszczewicz of Hillsborough, Gretchen Adent of Orlando, Fla. and Aaron Adent of West Palm Beach, Fla.; Brothers, Leo Adent and his wife Jennie of Highland, Ind., Henry Adent and wife Liz of Crestwood, Eddie Adent and wife Mary of Blue Island; and a sister, Emily Arns of St. Charles, Mo.
Mr. Adent survived three brothers, Al, Stanley and Julian Adent, and a sister, Helen Dongvillo.
Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Friday at Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Church, Bradley.
Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery, Bourbonnais.
