Marriage Report for Povilas and Marijona

built between 1460 & 1480, photo by: Matthew Adent 2001 On November 15, 1898 in Saint Gertruda Roman Catholic Church in Kaunas built between 1460 & 1480, photo by: Matthew Adent 2001 , the priest, Spokevicius, registered the marriage of Telsiai townsman Povilas Eidimtas 30 years old, the son of Antanas and Antanina, maiden name Zinkevicius and Kaunas townswoman Marijona Soletickis 17 years old, the daughter of Vincentas and Rozalija, maiden name Purvinskis. Both are from Slabada.
The bans were called on November 1, 8, 15. The witnesses were Felikas Gorzelskis, Rapolas Smidtas, Antanas Zujauskas.

The church was found by checking the historical records of Kaunus as to which parish the priest Spokevicius was assigned to at that time. While checking, there were a few older priests that actually remembered him. It seems he was very young then when he married Paul and Maryanna and it was his first parish.

*NOTE: The dates recorded in the above reports are possibly based on the Julian Calendar. In 1918 the Soviet Union decreed that the day after January 1st, 1918 (Julian) would become February 14th, 1918 (Gregorian). To convert, add 10 days to dates between Oct.5th, 1582 through Feb. 28th, 1700. After that date add 11 days through Feb.28, 1800; 12 days through Feb. 28, 1900, and 13 days through Feb. 28th, 2100.
