I raised the base of the telescopic mast up about 5ft with a section of 2 1/2" rigid conduit. By doing this I was able to secure the lower section of the mast to the back deck and have easy access to mount the antenna and push the sections up by standing on the deck. It is guyed at the middle and at the top. I waited for a windless day before I raised it. Don't know how much flexing it can handle. Now I have easy access to the antenna without having to use the extension ladder or having a second person. The last thing to do is to sink a ground rod and secure it to the mast. I had no problems with the installation. I have been looking for a good telescope mast for some time (don't buy anything from radio shack) with no luck. The second mast will be stored in the garage just in case something happens to the main mast. The vertical is connected to a 110W Motorola Syntor X transceiver. The Syntor is used as a base unit for the simplex auto-patch. The auto-patch is configured to interface to the in-house telephone intercom system and the standard POTS line. Calls can be initiated from the mobile or by dialing the auto-patch extension from a in-house phone. Now that the antenna is 55ft up and being on a hill I get good coverage all around the Pittsburgh area. Thanks again - Maybe we will meet again next year??
