For some great history, visit Don Allen, the artist who painted most of the nose art featured on our WWII art pages. On his site he displays a roster of who commissioned which piece of art, and for what type of plane. There's also a section on modern nose art, and a nice section of pinup art from WWII.
WWII: Posters of Persuasion is a jump-off point for finding WWII posters along with explanations of their propaganda value.
More History: America from the Great Depression to WWII has about 1600 color 164,000 black and white pictures ranging from farm production to military maneuvers. If you like the WWII Era, this Library of Congress section is worth a visit or two.
