Pure & Simple Dreadlocks: Wax
Wax!

Dread wax is a much debated thing. I think the only way to really have a opinion on wax, is if you have had first hand experience with it. Some people say never use it or some people say its okay, and some say its all in moderation.... and of course DreadheadHQ and Knottyboy say its the most wonderful thing in the world for dreadlocks.

I'm going to try my best to be fair but I'm also going to give you my opinion. This is my experience & opinion on wax.....

When I first wanted dreadlocks, I had no idea how to start them. Someone told me to check out DreadheadHQ site, so i did. Everything looked great... so i brought their wax & shampoo and had my boyfriend dread my hair. I used the wax for about 6 to 7 months, and then found a forum board talking about how bad it is. They talked about how it slows down the locking process, how its more like a lube and it never washes out. So, i trimmed my locks, and sure enough, there was so much wax in my dreads it was unbelievable. I was so mad, because I love my dreads.... so, i've washed and washed and washed my dreads.... and about a year later, wax it STILL in my dreadlocks, and in some spots you can see the wax(were there is loops and at the tips). This upsets me so much, I find my self wanting to cut them off sometimes. Why would someone want to buy sometime to put in there locks that will never wash out! This is something I don't get about DreadheadHQ, they say for your hair to lock up, you cant have any residue in your hair, thats why they sell residue-free soap, right?? Well, news flash.... WAX IS RESIDUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Basically anything that doesn't wash out with soap and water is a residue! Well, now I'm stuck with candle-sticks for dreadlocks, wonderful!

This is a picture take recently of the inside of my dreadlocks. Sorry of the poor quality, the whitest stuff is wax!

Okay, now thats only my opinion, take it on leave it. Many others have very different opinions on wax. For instance, some poeple say its all in how you use it and a little goes a LLLLLLOOOOOONNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG way, and i think thats a great way to look are it. It's just to many people think... well if a little works.... a lot will work even better....

I dunno, I'm just needed to just that off my chest. I'm so tried of reading dreadlock websites that tell you how great wax is and never gives you the other side of the of the story. Let me know if there is anyway to improve this page.
