We believe an inmate's life and safety has been put in extreme jeopardy by members of the Florida Department of 'Corrections'. His mother is in great fear. Jason reported in letters to his mother that he had been abused by Sgt. Grover. Immediately his mother's mail apparently ceased reaching Jason. As usual the department has begun to block all her attempts to talk to her son. As the DoC's end of the conversation has escalated from 'he's okay' to 'mental illness' to resisting a cell extraction, his mother's fears have increased. As another irony, lo and behold, the abusing officer that Jason and his mother are trying to report "just left for Iraq". , according to the Inspector. All Mary Buchanan wants to do is look at and talk to her son to verify his health and welfare. The DoC just says "NO!"

June 14, 2004. Jason is in a situation that could take me down. I didn't hear for so long & then I sent an email & his dad called the prison, Apalachee East unit. His dad was told he can receive & send mail the same day was the 1st postmark - 2 days ago - I finally got mail & it was a large frantic packet of letters. He says he was beaten by a sgt & tried to report it & things went from bad to worse. He is admin confined & yesterday's letter said he was encouraged by guards to kill himself & told that they would find out where his family lives bla bla - ugh! He was writing on the back of account reports so I know there was some med intervention. So - I called & talked to the chaplain - Surely he will check & tell me the truth. I'm so lost in where to go or not go with this. I wrote & asked Jason to detail things for me - of course he probably won't get that until Monday or Tues. Jason's mom, Mary
