OKLAWAHA CAMPOUT
***************THE BEST ONE YET ****************
We think if you talk to anyone who attended our campout at Camp Oklawaha in Sebastian this weekend will tell you that we had the most awesome time yet! The site is set in the most beautiful area with showers and bathrooms close by and plenty of hot water to go around. This trip the boys had more free time to run and play and do what they want and they all got along superbly!
But now, we must tell you about our activities and show you the photo's! We have a Webelos leader who is outstanding. When we began planning this trip and it's activities one leader commented when the mention was made of a Nature Hike. Well like most packs our boys have seen enough trees and dirt to last them a life time and that was a concern. However, when you take your CubMaster who has YEARS of experience and is an Eagle Scout and you put him with Tissa our Webelos leader, oh my word -LOOK OUT! We've posted the Chief Walking Bear Adventure so you can all enjoy and imagine just what a great time this was for our boys. They are still talking about this 'nature hike' affectionately now known as the
Chief Walking Bear Adventure
Each group was led by a Webelos Scout who read the adventure as they walked along- 4 groups were formed and sent out at 5 minute intervals.
Begin at the pavilion. From the pavilion follow the road to the right of the flag post. Go past the Shoshone tribe and be very quiet as they don't like noise.Go right at the fork to the shower by the Tomahawk Lake. There is an invisible scout in the water and he needs help. Take the life saver on your left and throw it to the scout (the pole in the water). When everyone has had a turn to Big Chief Jim Pike for some important information. Proceed around the lake on the road til you reach the rapids. The sound you hear is the ancient Indian Spirits washing their plates! Guess how long it will take for a piece of wood to flow from the start to the end of the rapids? Go back to the tree near you and turn right and cross the old poachers bridge. Watch out for snakes and jumping alligators. Follow the path to the left along the river of no return. At the narrow wooden bridge over the river on your left, crawl on all fours across the bridge to avoid the head hunters poison dart. You are now in Paute territory. Go left. Follow the bank of the river of no return and go right at the two trees at the narrow wooden 15 plank bridge over the trail of the Amazon Python. Follow the path to the right of the campsite. At the Pima campground you will come to the pirahna river. The only way to cross is to swing across using the rope. Go past the Pima post and follow the road to the Wapache tribe. Here you will follow the arrows on the ground and cross the fire pit of doom in single file. DO NOT LOOK DOWN! Follow the arrow back to the road and go right. Take the first road to your left and follow this to the Navajo tribe. There is a very big sulfur marsh and the only way to cross it is to follow the Albino snake rope with your EYES CLOSED! Follow the arrow on the ground back to the road. Turn left at the road and follow it to the tribal hut. The smallest member in your group has just broken his leg! Make a stretcher using two poles and two shirts. Carry the injured cub to the end of the trail at the prayer circle! SUCCESS! You have now completed your challenge

Asanga has broken his leg! They must carry him on a stretcher!
Crawling across poachers bridge......oh no, jumping alligators!
Swinging over the pirahna pit! Miss Tanya made it on the first attempt! Way to go Ms. T!
The fire pit.....thank goodness it wasn't still warm! (only kidding)
Here you see Tissa our Webelos leader concocting his adventure! You're awesome Tissa!
The boys made walking sticks from Maleluca branches. We then made leather tongs to go on them. They really enjoyed making them especially when they got to use them on the adventure.......who'd have thought they'd make great poles for a stretcher!
Tissa also gave a class in Knots while we were there. Here you see Shriyantha making great use of that rope we gave him. Nice hat Shri!
Here we have Ranger Lee. He came on Sunday morning to inspect our area before anyone could depart. The boys figured they'd better go with him and make sure he didn't find anything or we couldn't go home!
Here's our happy Oklawaha family. We were all kinda bummed when it was time to go home........Thanks to all of you who went, you definitely made this the best one yet! We're definitely doing the Oklawaha thing next year!
