RESPONSE FROM THE DEPUTY TO JERRY

Kay,

This is my 2nd response to Mr. Hicklen’s letter. He didn’t forward it to you for you to post.  I’m sure my words are different, but the concept is the same. As before, my response is inside the text if the letter & mine are in blue Would you please ensure that this letter is posted on the website?  Thanks for your help.

Jeff Price

SCSOR 38

I do not know Jeff Price. But his email address and his signature would indicate that he is a reserve of some kind. "Stephens County Sheriff's Office Reserve" =SCSOR  # 38 perhaps?

Yes, I am a reserve officer.

Mr. Price: Anytime you have even ONE person that had a medical condition and it is a serious and FACTUAL medical issue, such as a Pancreatic Disorder...

[Diseases of the Pancreas  http://www.pancreatic-disorders.com]

...You know that the young man that has this is sick from it and that Diabetes runs in this family, The lack of medicine alone CAN KILL him!  Get that right, Please?

I’m unaware of this particular inmate’s medical condition, so I will not comment about him directly.  I’m not a medical professional, but I’m sure any type of medical condition needs to be taken seriously.  I can tell you that when an inmate is booked into the jail, he/she is asked numerous medical questions.  If an inmate refuses to discus it, is unaware of it or just says “No”, how is a jailor to know if there’s something that needs special attention?

Secondly this man has this medical condition and IS NOT being allowed his medication, so therefore
with just these two men, this alone Warrants concern in general for them, as well all the well-being of every single INMATE there in your facility.

Meniere's Disease Information Center -- Extensive information

I’m not aware of any inmates being denied medicine or medical treatment if it’s prescribed by a medical professional.  With that being said, let me say this:  If an inmate has a prescription pill that says he/she needs to take one “every 4 hours” that’s fine.  But if 2 hours later he wants a pill, he’s not going to get it.  That’s not being “denied medication”, that’s following the doctor’s orders.  If a person getting booked in refuses medical treatment & 3 hours later attention because he/she is coming down off a high or sobers up & starts to feel some kind of pain, that’s not being “denied” medical treatment.  We’ll get to it, but unless it’s a legitimate injury or illness, the Deputies aren’t going to drop what there doing & run with lights & siren back to the jail.  They’ll prioritize & get to it.

Third, if you are a guard then you know the general laws of provision for inmates being held
in their care, right? If you are as ethical as you try and sound then please remember this too:
Not ALL people in jail are guilty, or do you see it another way?

All deputies & jailors are responsible for the care & handling of an inmate.  Whether a person is guilty or innocent is not my concern.  That’s something the judge, DA & lawyers will have to work out.  Let me say this.  I won’t make an arrest unless there’s good reason to believe (evidence) that a certain person committed, is committing or is going to commit a crime.  The judge & jury will determine whether my findings are strong enough to decide guilt.  After an arrest, the judge will decide if a person needs to be released on bond or kept in jail.  The law sees no difference between a guilty person & an accused person as far as facilities are concerned.  There are no special cells or food that an untried inmate receives.  All inmates are given 3 meals & a place to sleep until they’re released.

Just as your detectives and DA's make allegations to a civilian and in their position by law they do
what they deem as right, we are doing the same. The allegations are made and we to have the
RIGHT to know. If even one person is helped then it's been worthwhile and justified in some way.

You have every right in the world to investigate accusations & follow the paths that you think may be necessary to get answers.  What I have a problem with is false accusations, personal attacks & using the internet to spread it all. This website talks about innocent until proven guilty, yet it seems that Sheriff Bruner & her staff isn’t allowed that right.  If you want people to look at your group as legitimate, you’ll do what you expect us to do & that’s to gather good evidence & submit it to the proper authorities.

Now, as per a conspiracy? No one is claiming that, except maybe the "Good Ole Boy" network, perhaps as a cover-up? There are so few in your state of Oklahoma that Govern the jails, no wonder you all feel protected, but that is changing year by year.

I don’t know what civilization you come from, but I think 99% of people would see “conspiracy” & “cover-up” as the same thing.  Is 99% of the people part of the “Good Ole Boy” tribe?  When I think of a group like that, I picture people that go by “Bubba”, "Jed” & “Hoss”.  I don’t know anyone by that name.  I take it that by saying, “your state” that you’re not from here.  What is your interest in this place anyway?  Do you not have problems of your own or social problems in your area that you can lend your energy to?  If you’re that passionate about these accusations, why have you not visited Stephens County with a bus load of protestors & picket signs?  Maybe you’re not that passionate about it after all?

So in some way {YES SIR} civil rights are being broken, just with the medical alone. If getting the right office - whether it be the FBI, your local Police {not that THAT would EVER happen};
whether it be local, federal, or good old boy - held accountable, prisoners HAVE THE RIGHT to medical care.

Inmates do have a right to adequate medical care, if they require it.  As before, if you have some kind of real evidence, please bring it forward.  Don’t bring it to the “good ole boys”.  Take it to the Dept of Corrections, FBI, the Attorney General, Fox News, anybody but here!  Since you’re not from around here, I suspect you have absolutely nothing but second hand stories & a website full of false accusations & personal attacks.

As per the comment of the Rock sounding 'mystical', you must have the mind of a child. In fact some of the Detention Officers call it 'The Rock' as well the Inmates.  It's a used "TERM" and not one we knew about till it was brought to our attention.

How many times do I have to remind you people that I told you about the Rock & what it was used for!  All you have to do is go back & read my 1st letter to Kay Lee.  Mind of a child?  Let me say this:  A child sees things for what they are.  If it stinks, a child will say it.  Also, would you agree that a child is born free from hate?  They have to be taught how to hate, correct?  Who taught you?

On your new glimmering jail"... Good for you, "State of the Art" same applies. In fact we ARE talking about two different places: The Rock is part of the OLD jail, so no need for that comment.

Go back & read my 1st letter.

You mentioned the word "MONITORED".  Can things not slip through a crack?  Of course.  If not we'd have no reason to be here? You seem to speak for the entire County jail, is this so, is this your job?

I’m not a spokesman for the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office or the jail staff.  Like you, I will defend something I believe in.  Unlike you, I know where it is, what it looks like, what goes onin it, I’ve been there & I don’t need a map to find it.  Can you say the same?

Not once has anyone here said "FREE" the inmates.  We KNOW they are there for a reason, That's not our business!  Their treatment is.

Their treatment is our business too & the Sheriff & her staff does a pretty darn good job at it.

On the food issue and eating, you say there is no problem. Well there must be IF a woman
from YOUR town had to come and DONATE her own monies, and her own time as well, to buy and transport food that you all DID NOT have just so the inmates could eat that day. Is this justifiable?

Can you tell me of the day, time, what was donated or the woman’s name that saved the inmates from a day of starvation?  Those inmates have never missed a balanced meal any day they were incarcerated.  Unless you can prove otherwise, you shouldn’t make those statements.

Thank you for being humane and taking a prisoner to the Hospital, you did the right thing, This is what we are asking of ANYONE, not to free anyone, but to do the right thing. But when a person doesn't have their meds, and you know they could die a year from then or a day from now, is that right? So there is a correct issue here, am I wrong, or Is it the "REST of the World"?

I am not too sure what is correct, or what is not on this site, but I do know there are several factual things to check out as well as to be concerned about {"The stories on your website are simply incorrect & have no basis of truth"} and you are wrong again: What of the inmates who have been taken to the hospital, the man who was released from Staph, the man who was on the Rock who was recently taken as well?

I can’t comment on the person with the Staph infection because I don’t know about his situation.  But would you at least agree that many of the people that get booked into jail are not living the healthiest of life styles?  The best food many of them have eaten in a while came from inside the jail.  Many of them are there because of drugs & alcohol related offenses.  It’s not like many of them are Olympic athletes.  Many have been in fights or car wrecks which means bumps, bruises & scrapes.  Isn’t it possible that some might have been sick before they were arrested?  I’ve seen the places some of the inmates lived in & you’d have a hard time convincing me that the Stephens County jail where they got sick.

We are worried about the prisoners' well-being while at your jail, not whether or not there is any conspiracy!

Now remember you said, "...I'd be the 1st in line to protest..."? So will you join us?

Mr. Hicklen, if the inmates were treated the way you think they are, I would, but they’re not, so I won’t.
