David Arthur Faraday - Born: October 2, 1951 in California. Died: December 21, 1968 at 12:05 am; pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. He was a Senior at Vallejo Senior High School.
On December 20, 1968, Betty Lou Jensen and David Faraday were going on their first official date. David had been looking forward to the date all day, and Betty Lou had tried on several outfits, asking her sister which looked best. They had told Betty Lou's parents that they were going to a Christmas concert, but they never went. They went somewhere, and then went to a diner. After the diner, they went to the remote Lake Herman Road, on the outskirts of Vallejo, California. This was not an unusual place for teenagers to go, because at night they could stay hidden, but when an oncoming car was heading towards them, they could see the lights from the car. By 11:10 pm, David had parked his brown Rambler in the spot where it would remain until after their deaths.
Another car pulled up near the Rambler. It was a light-colored car, thought to be a Chevrolet Impala. The driver of the car got out, walked up the the Rambler, and began shooting off his .22 caliber semi-automatic pistol from the driver's side of the car. As the couple started out of the passenger side of the car, the attacker shot David Faraday in the head once at a close range. The bullet stopped him and he went down. Betty Lou started screaming and ran from the car as fast as she could, but she didn't get very far. She was found less then 30 feet from the car, with 5 bullet wounds to her back. The coroner later said that attacker was no more then 10 feet away from Betty Lou when he was shooting.
There were no witnesses to the actual crime, but there were several witnesses to the attacker's car. The police were called, but it was too late for Betty Lou. She was pronounced dead on the scene. David was taken to a nearby hospital, but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
It appeared, in the aftermath, that Betty Lou may have known the attacker, but no one knows for sure. What is known, is that David was openly talking about a major drug deal he learned of, and it was thought that perhaps the attacker killed to keep David silent.
As for the attacker himself, it was originally said that he was an expert marksman after this, but there was some doubt. It was said that he shot off 10 shots, but only 8 rounds were later accounted for.
