Other:
Captain's 4th foal and 2nd colt, we were quite surprised when we hit the ground.
As we've decided to keep his half brother, Mike, Thor is being offered for sale.
We would prefer he be go to a show barn and be kept intact - he's going to be a real head-turner when he grows up.
Depending on your mare his foals may be eligible for the following registrations (listing not comprehensive):
Gaited Baroque Horse (x Frisian or any gaited breed and foal must gait), Frisian Sport Horse (x any Sport Horse breed),
Appaloosa Frisian Sport Horse (x any Sport Horse breed and foal must be appy marked), Friewalker (x TWH), KSMH
Genetic Notes:
Thor is a Varnish Appaloosa without a PATN gene. He will eventually "varnish out" as he ages becoming mostly, or entirely, white. Until then his varnish flecks shall look like so much snowflakes against his black coat. His varnish markings should be expanded as he ages to reflect the real life progression of Appy Varnish.
Splash pinto is known to cause white in the tail, though Splash can be so minimal as to leave zero white on an affected animal.
Within this understanding it has been determined that Thor is a Splash pinto.
Splash1 is carried on MITF, it is very widespread (documented in a variety of breeds), and is known to be homozygous-viable.
Congenital Stationary Night Blindness is a genetic disorder carried on the Leopard Complex gene (LP). All Appaloosa marked horses will be at least carriers for the condition and horses which are homozygous will be affected. A horse affected by CSNB will be functionally blind in dark areas, such as dim stables and arenas, and at night. Other than the natural risks involved with having a blind horse, CSNB horses bear no other negative health effects from the disorder.
Conformation:
Frisian Naming Convention:
Using a telephone keypad, each calendar year has 3-4 letters assigned to it; these letters are to begin the name of every foal born that year.
Using this convention, a horse foaled in 2014 would receive the letters T, U, or V.
Vittorioso was chosen to reflect his mother's "musical" name.
