Kev's review
(the edited version - Fireflies members can read the unedited
version on the members pages):
Fleetwood Bac (or was it Mac?)
I know the first song was Gold Dust Woman,
but I cannot remember it at all. I had this feeling of OH MY GOD!!! "Stevie"
looked fabulous, "Lindsey" was far sexier than the real thing
(cute butt, Matt), "John" was John in my opinion (with a touch of
Woody Allen thrown in I think), while I couldn't believe
"Christine". Sorry, but "Mick" was well hidden
behind the drum kit.
Second Hands News I think was next, but by
now I was feeling a little ill. In between the end of Second Hand
News and the start of the third song, well I came over all queer! A
quick spew in the toilet and I was fine, and back I went to hear the last bit
of Seven Wonders.
Up to this point I hadn't really taken
much notice, but now I was back from the grave I started to enjoy myself.
"Lindsey" sex on legs
"Buckingham"
"Lindsey" was solo good.
One of my favourites of the night was "Green Manalishi". The
place rocked. I was so impressed. A question Matt. Ever
though about doing "Man Of The World"? The other "Lindsey"
highlight was of course "Go Your Own Way" and "Big Love".
You can pluck me any time baby.
"Christine Perfect!"
"Christine" got the place
rocking with "You Make Loving Fun", perhaps
even better than I have
heard live from the real Fleetwood Mac. That
bloke who shouted
"perfect" at the end was right. I was literally stunned.
Well done guys. Although "Christine" only had one more song I
think, "Don't Stop", she
was amazing. Even though this was my
first time seeing FB, I can't imagine the band without her. Hopefully in
time she'll do more. We were thinking of "Songbird" and
"Say You Love Me" in particular.
Lisa *is* Stevie (I am such a brown
tongue!)
Being more a Stevie fan nowadays than a FM
fan I was naturally looking forward to seeing Lisa. I was not
disappointed. If a tribute band makes you feel that you are listening to
the real thing, and even more importantly gives you those same feelings you
get when you watch that real band live, either in person or on video, then
they have done their job. Those tingly moments I get when I hear the
real Stevie sing, I got on Friday night.
The most memorable Stevie song that night
was "Edge Of Seventeen", for me and I think for everyone else.
Lisa was amazing. I got the tingles. One of my favourite parts of
the song, when Stevie and Sharon do their "well I hear
you.....I hear you..... in the morning" bit was equally just as good as
the original. I was amazed. Great guitar Matt. Eat
your heart out Waddy!
The one song I was looking forward to
hearing the most, which you guys had told me so much about before was
"Sisters Of The Moon". I felt like I was in the audience
watching the Mirage Tour video. Lisa you are wonderful. Thank you.
(Sorry about talking all the way through "Has Anyone Ever
Written...", but Gem is such a chatterbox!)
There were so many other songs that I
haven't mentioned, but I must mention "Landslide". This is the
Fireflies song now. Thank you Lisa for dedicating this to us. You
nearly made this old cynic cry. Nearly.
We all went back very happy and I was so
impressed. I am normally very honest when I write a review so I was
dreading the fact that I might have come away disappointed. I was not.
Well done FB.
Jewels' review: (Thank
goodness Jewel's was decent and didn't need editing!)
My timing has always been lousy, if not a little
comic, however on the night of the Fleetwood Bac concert in Bilston it was
both a blessing and a curse.
It was a curse because due to my desire to climb a
flight of stairs to the loo, I missed the band taking to the stage. It was a
blessing though because when I walked back into the room I had one of those
"wow" moments. So much so I actually stopped walking just to be sure
my ears where right and the larger was not hallucogenic. I heard "Stevie"
belting out "Gold Dust Woman" and it was amazing...like the "Rumours"
CD.
This was my vindication, after being ridiculed
at work for travelling 200 miles from Cardiff to Bilston, (especially as
I escaped the West Midlands to go to uni) to see a tribute band...I can safely
say they were worth it.
The band didnt play a single bad song, although the
point we all swayed to a song I had never heard before did not come
anywhere near the top of the highlights-of-the-night table.
The crowd also seemed to be glad they came, there
was lots of dancing from The Fireflies throughout, particularly Mike (hands
down winner in the danced my arse off category and also surprised Jewels by
being a man in a poncho in Bilston and not getting my head kicked in
category). Despite our efforts the crowd - despite being enchanted(sorry poor
pun) only started to get into the dancing bit at "Edge of seventeen"
which I am sure you would all agree was one of the best tracks of the night.
It certainly made a nightmare journey back (Railtrack strike again)seem well
worth it. By the encore I had sang (well more acurately screeched) myself
hoarse at my own personal favourites, like SIsters, Rhiannon, Go your own way
and Sara but still managed to shout for more.
Music aside (sacrilege I know) I was in awe of the
band too. Surprisingly not only was "Lindsey" sexy (not much
surprose there then) but so was "John" definatley one up on FM. The
lads playing guitar to the audience (nice photo Pip) was definately enough to
drool over.
The new "Christine" was also great, and
the only give away to the fact she was new was the fact she looked petrified
at first, as she faced the audience. Are we that scary? There was no need to
be so shy you were great.
Finally the real star of the show had to be "Stevie"
not only did Lisa sound like the Divine Ms Nicks, she also looked like
her too!!
I would definately travel to see the band again.
Another highlight of the night was meeting many of you, and for the first time
too. It was great to meet you and I think another night out is definately a
good idea.
