Fleetwood Bac Review
Fleetwood Bac Review – Saturday 6th
Oct, Half moon, Putney, London
The
Half Moon pub in Putney was the scene for the hottest Fleetwood Mac tribute band
around, Fleetwood Bac.
The
place was packed with Mac fans of all ages, and everyone was on their feet by
the end of the night.
There were cheers aplenty when the five took to the stage and began the set of 22 songs with the well-known Rumours classic ‘The Chain’. Stevie approached the mic, which was draped with an authentic Stevie-style purple shawl, and red rose with Lindsey at her side and Mick, John, and Chris in the background. The realistic clothing and appearance of the band certainly added to the atmosphere of the night.
As
in Stevie’s own live performances, the Bac’s Stevie left the stage for
costume changes throughout the show, some of which included fabulous platform
boots in both black and white and flowing shawls and skirts, not to mention the
ultimate in big hair!
However we were a little disappointed not to see an appearance of the
infamous top hat during the show.
But overall, the Bac’s front woman succeeded in her portrayal of the
splendour that is Stevie Nicks.
Also bearing an impressive resemblance to his character was Lindsey, complete with bush-like hair and what appeared to be matching Stevie boots! These two particularly stood out to be the stars of the show right from the start and the audience were not to be disappointed with their performance. Their individual movement and mannerisms onstage were close to perfection and the interaction between the members, particularly Stevie and Lindsey, was clearly pleasing to the enthusiastic audience. The pair’s interaction with the crowd also played an important role in their notable reception, and there was sufficient opportunity for them to demonstrate their impersonation talents during the song intervals, where Stevie would thank her audience and Lindsey would say ‘Thank you Eng-er-land’ on multiple occasions.
There
was a joke made at the beginning of the show concerning the absence of Christine
McVie on keyboards, who was replaced with her ‘long lost brother’,
Christopher McVie, which appeared to amuse the crowd.
However, her absence was not a concern as Christopher’s keyboard skills
were more than able, and it also gave Stevie and Lindsey the opportunity to take
centre stage.
‘Don’t Stop’ was the only song of Christine’s that was used in
the set and was aptly performed by Lindsey with Stevie on backing vocals.
The
set list included Mac classics such as Dreams, Go Your Own Way, Rhiannon,
Seven Wonders, and Gypsy as well as some classic Stevie Nicks’ solo material.
These included Edge of 17, Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You and
Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around.
A pleasing surprise was the addition
of several Peter Green gems including Oh Well and Need Your Love So
Bad.
The band also showed off their acoustic skills with impressive performances
of Big Love and Landslide.
Overall,
the Bac pulled off an impressive portrayal of the classic Fleetwood Mac line up.
The only dispute that we were left with by the end of the show was
whether Lindsey managed to outdo Stevie in the big hair department!!
