About Us
ACWAC; the Austin College Wine Appreciation Club, was formed in 1989 by a group of like minded residents of Austin College.
Austin College is one of the residential colleges of the University of New England (UNE).
Membership is open to males only (yes - we are the last bastion of chauvinism) and is by invitation only.
All members have resided in Austin College for at least one academic year before they are eligible for membership (there have been some exceptions, mainly exchange students).
Generally, ACWAC is about a group of guys getting together and having a good time. Meetings are held twice a term, before formal dinners, and on other special occasions (notably Bierfest, AGM).
As the name suggests, the main beverage on offer is wine, although at some meetings port is served.
Every year a trip to wineries is planned, unfortunately this did not occur in 1998, 1999 & 2000.
Princess Di died when ACWAC had its trip in 1997. This tragedy was not caused by ACWAC in any way shape or form.
