An interesting coincidence is the fact that the Smiths, Bradys and Farrellys all came from Cavan. Of even more interest is the fact that when John Smith signed his papers to enter the 21st., he signed as "John SMYTH". No relationship has been uncovered but there is a possibility that it exists.

In March 1868, Mr. P. Brady donated £2 to the appeal for the new building for the Sisters of Mercy in Perth.

Unfortunately his was a life which was not to reach old age and the Catholic Record of 14.8.1879 recorded his passing:-

THE LATE MR. PHILIP BRADY - We have to announce with deep regret the demise of Mr. Philip S. Brady, at the comparatively early age of 43 years. The deceased was a man of quiet, unassuming habits, and possessed the respect of all who were acquainted with him. He held for some time back, the responsible position of Clerk in the office of the Supreme Court, and gave every satisfaction by the assiduous discharge of his duties. Mr. Brady was devoted Catholic, and his well-known figure will be missed by his many friends from its usual place in the Cathedral. He leaves, we are sorry to add, a wife and children to mourn their premature and sad loss. - R.I.P.

Henrietta lived on and endured 29 years of widowhood. Returning to her childhood home she lived with her mother and several of her unmarried sisters, raising her children and giving them a start in life despite a lingering illness. On 12.9.1908 the Catholic Record published her obituary:-

SAD DEATH OF MRS. H.M. BRADY
With almost tragic suddeness Mrs. Brady, one of the most respected colonists of the State died on last Wednesday. For years the deceased lady had not been in robust health, but so quiet and unostentatious was her life that very few knew of the suffering she endured with truly heroic patience. She was at Mass and Holy Communion on Sunday and in three days she was dead - having received all the rites of the Church with the most admirable dispositions. In every confraternity and devotion, Mrs Brady, was among the most active and energetic members. She had been president of the Sacred Heart Confraternity for many years; a member of the Sodality of our Lady at Loreto; and on every occasion showed the deepest and most practical interest in every movement that made for the spiritual good of the people. Personally she was an exemplary Catholic. She was never absent from daily Mass and Holy Communion unless when business took her away from the city, and she was known to struggle to the Lord's Alter to receive him when she was in eminent danger of collapsing from weakness and pain. Kind, affable and charitable, a good mother, daughter and wife, her example in every capacity was truly admirable, and her loss by death is deplored by all who had the priviledge of her acquaintance.

Deceased was a native of Western Australia, having been born in Perth and was the second eldest daughter of the late Bernard Smith, and wife of the late Mr. Phillip S. Brady, late acting registrar of the Supreme Court. The funeral took place last Friday morning in Perth, where deceased had spent most of her life, and the interment took place in the Roman Catholic Cemetery, East Perth, by the side of her late husband who pre-deceased her some 29 years ago. Requiem Mass was celebrated in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception at 10 o'clock, the cortege then moving to the cemetery, where the Right Reverend Monsignor Bourke conducted the burial ceremony, after which he referred to the deceased's exemplary life, having known her personally from childhood. Deceased leaves a family of two sons and two daughters to mourn their loss, viz., Messrs. Arthur George and Vincent Gerald Brady, Mrs. Francis Campbell and Sister Mary Dominic, Convent of Mercy, Victoria Square, other mourners being Mrs. B. Smith (mother), Mr. Harry Smith (Brother), Masters Wilfrid Brady and Alexander Campbell (grandsons), and Master B. Smith (nephew). The Pall- bearers were Colonel Campbell, Dr. Haynes, Messrs. J.J. Lloyd, M.J. Regan, Thos. Vowles, T. Kelly, G.A. Forsyth, and W.E. Kennedy. Amongst those present were the Reverends Father Smyth, O'Reilly, Gallagher and Bro. O. Mullane, Messrs T.J. Beatty, Walter Ranford, Joseph Hope and W. Horgan, E.J. Rodereda, John and Joseph Camp- bell, W. McCartney, B. Hawtin, John and James Corbett, A. Westhoven, A.G. Curthoys, R.H. Hall, J.C. Beilby, T. Davidson, F.L. Davidson, F. Hope, W.B. Hooper, J.R. Cowell and many others. The bereaved family received many letters and telegrams of sympathy. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Messrs. Bowra and O'Dea. R.I.P.

Henrietta's Will is a masterpiece of brevity and clarity.

Aug. 2nd 1908; This is my last will & I revoke all others made before. I leave all my real and personal possessions whatsoever to be equally divided between my four children Arthur Frances Vincent and Edith (Dominic) - (Signed) Henrietta M. Brady - Witnessed by Eliza E. Clinch, Laura E. Smith. Arthur George Brady of Ord St. West Perth was appointed Administrator by the Supreme Court.
