Married: James Vernon HAWTIN in 1895 (Perth 82/95) in Perth, Western Australia. He was born on 29.4.1872 in England & died on 2.1.1944 at Mt. Lawley aged 71 (Perth 1/1944).
In the 1911 Civil Service List, James is listed as Secretary in the Water Supply and Sewerage Department on a salary of £500. The 1914 Electoral rolls show Edith to be a freeholder, with both house and land held in her name, at 46 Monger St., Perth. She lived with her husband, an Accountant, at 3 Alvin St., Mt. Lawley. By 1921 he had left the Civil Service and was working elsewhere. In 1923, James' profession was shown as "Secretary" but by 1939.his profession had reverted to that of "Accountant". Throughout the family lived at the same address. The 1943 Post Office Directory recorded the additional letters "J.P." in his entry.
Affectionately known to some as "Little white Nanna", Edith was devoted to her husband, with a keen sense of humour. She was very popular and loving with her grand-children although a little distant. She would give a little pocket money for gardening chores such as hedge cutting or lawn mowing. James had been Secretary of the Water Board and an accountant and he was the very picture of an English gentleman. He would preside at the dinner table where he was waited on by his wife. On the day of his death there was a fire in the garden next door and in running to get the garden hose to help put it out, James suffered a fatal heart attack.

was born in 1872 & died 6.12.1956 at Mt Lawley, W.A.
(Joseph Charles ran the local Tattersalls sweeps and that is how
his name appears in the newspaper advertisements of the time.)
