DEATH OF SISTER JOSEPHINE - During the week just past, the Sisters
of St. Joseph, in Fremantle, like the Sisters of Mercy, in Perth,
have had to mourn the loss of a beloved member of the Order. The
name of Sister Josephine is widely known in Catholic circles. She
was one of the first in this colony to assume the religious habit,
and of the fifty nine years of her life, forty were passed within
the walls of her convent. Her life was full of good works, and
brightened by an unfailing cheerfulness of disposition. Her zeal
and ability recommended her for various offices, and up to the
time of her death she discharged the duties of Mistress of
Novices. During her latter years, however, sickness seriously
impaired her activity. She was a sufferer from dropsy, in seeking
relief from she underwent many painful operations, and to which
she ultimately succumbed. Her obsequies were conducted with all
due solemnity, and her remains were followed to their last resting
place by a large number of friends, many of whom had received
their best training in childhood at her kindly hands. R.I.P.
