Carolyn Abbott

Caroline C. Abbott, 91, of Terre Haute passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2015 in Springhill Village. She was born April 27, 1924 in Terre Haute, IN.

Caroline was a secretary for the Vigo County School Corporation. After retirement she worked at the Swope Art Gallery and Roselawn Memorial Park.

Survivors include her son, Robert Chris Abbott; granddaughters, Erin Worrell and Chelsea Phillips; great grandchildren, EJ Weatherspoon, Ty Johnson, Elijah Weatherspoon, and Mahki Johnson; and brother-in-law, Richard Nicoson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jay and Irene Holder; husband, Robert Lee Abbott; and daughter, Sue “Angie” Worrell.

Caroline was an active member of Unity Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of Alpha Beta Phi Sorority at Indiana University, the Bridge Club, the Women’s Club, and the Birthday Club. Caroline’s hobbies included cooking and sewing. She will be remembered most for her devotion to her friends and family. Recalling her hospitality and the many celebrations she hosted in her home will warm the hearts of those left to cherish her memory.

Memorial services was held at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 7, 2015 in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street with Reverend Andrew Black officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park at a later date. There was no visitation. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Terre Haute Humane Society or Unity Presbyterian Church.

Myrna Zoan Diehl

Myrna Zoan Diehl, 57, of 6412 N. 32nd St. died at 4:45 a.m. Sunday, April 7, 1991, in Union Hospital. She was a secretary at North High School.

She was born December 14, 1933 to Herbert Anstead and Vivian Curtis Anstead.

Survivors include her husband, P. James Diehl; two daughters, Cheryl Cuthbertson and Vicki Hines of Terre Haute; one son, James Gerald Diehl of Round Lake Beach, Illinois; one brother, Wayne Anstead of Sheridan; one sister, Maurine Rukes of Terre Haute; eight grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was a member of the Church of the Living Christ, Vigo County Democrat Club, and Otter Creek Democrat Club.

Services were in Mattox-Wood Funeral Home, North Terre Haute Chapel. Burial was in Roselawn Memorial Park in Terre Haute, Indiana.

Beatrice L. Duenweg

Beatrice L. Duenweg, 76, of Terre Haute died at 1:45 p.m. Thursday, July 27, 1989 in Union Hospital. She was a retired Gerstmeyer High School teacher and had worked at Terre Haute North High School.

She was born January 22, 1913, in Terre Haute to Louis Duenweg and Marie Koons Duenweg.

Survivors include two brothers, Otto E. Duenweg of Napoleon, Ohio, and Louis Duenweg of Detroit, Michigan; and cousins.

She was a member of the Vigo County Teachers Association.

Services were in the Patrick J. Ryan Funeral Home. Burial was at Highland Lawn Cemetery in Terre Haute.

Patricia Gail Hogan

Patricia Gail Hogan, age 76, of Terre Haute, died Monday, Sept. 12, 2011. Patricia was born Aug. 4, 1935, to Ray W. Tennis and Katherine T. Klein Tennis. She married Jerry M. Hogan on July 30, 1954, and they were preparing to celebrate 57 years of marriage together before his death July 16, 2011.

Patricia was a secretary for Terre Haute North Vigo High School for the majority of the 32 years she worked for Vigo County School Corporation. She attended Brazil United Methodist Church and found the greatest joy in her grandchildren over the years.

She is survived by her son, Michael Ray Hogan and wife Sharon of Kokomo; daughter, Cindy Junker and husband Howard of Brazil; grandchildren, Jason Hogan and wife Lisa of Indianapolis, Tiffany Harden and husband T.K., Joshua Hogan, and Adam Perkins and wife Ashlee, all of Terre Haute, Tricia Junker, and Jennifer Junker, both of Brazil, and Katie Marie Hogan of Kokomo; stepgrandchild, Nicholas Hoover of Kokomo; great-grandchildren, Conner Harden, Blake Harden, Lane Harden, Callie Jean Hogan, A.J. Perkins II, and Lucas Hogan.

Patricia also was preceded in death by a son, Curtis Hogan; her parents; and brother, Jerry Tennis.

Funeral services were 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, 2011, at Roselawn Funeral Home. Burial was at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation was 4 p.m. until services Friday.

Betty Lou Pershing Vester

Teacher's Aid

Betty Lou Pershing Vester, 65, of Terre Haute, passed away at 6:25 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, in Meadows Manor North in Terre Haute.

She had been a teacher’s aide at Terre Haute North Vigo High School and Terre Town Elementary School. She was born Aug. 5, 1946, in Worthington, to Jacob F. Pershing Jr. and Zelma M. Black Pershing.

Her husband, Richard Vester, preceded her in death. Survivors include a daughter, Suzanne LeGrand of New Jersey; a son, Thomas Jacob “T.J.” LeGrand of Terre Haute; her stepmother, Virginia Pershing; two sisters, Carole Like and her husband Arthur, and Marie Monnett and her husband Randy; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Michael and Mica Pershing, Randy and Beth Pershing, Chuck and Sally Pershing, and Jimmy Pershing; two stepsisters, Laura Kluesner and Mary Lynn Tevlin; a stepbrother, Jack Vester; and many nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Mitchell Louis LeGrand; and two brothers, Jacob Pershing III, and Ronnie Pershing.

Betty was an accomplished artist and had painted murals at both Terre Haute North Vigo High School and St. Benedict Catholic Church.

Betty’s funeral service were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012, at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 N. Third St., in West Terre Haute, with Pastor Jacob Evans officiating. Burial was in Highland Lawn Cemetery. Visitation was 12 noon until service time Wednesday.

Margaret L. Walls

Margaret L. Walls, 79, of Sarasota, Fla., and formerly of Terre Haute, died Thursday morning, March 8, 2007, at her daughter’s home in Terre Haute. She was a secretary for Allen & Steen Mortgage Loan Company, Popular Subscription Services and the Vigo County School Corp., having worked at Garfield High School and Terre Haute North Vigo High School for 20 years before her retirement.

She was born March 11, 1927, in Paris, Ill., to Oscar Moore and Velma Lunger Moore. Her husband, Arthur E. Walls Jr., preceded her in death on Aug. 3, 1988.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, David A. Walls and Kathy Walls of Lafayette; her daughter and son-in-law, Debi and Mike Aird of Terre Haute; one sister, Nancy Beck and her husband John W. Beck of San Bernardino, Calif.; five grandchildren, Katlin Walls, Amanda Aird, Michael Aird Jr., Amy Aird and Skylar Aird; one sister-in-law, Peggy Jane Tinder of Danville, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.

Margaret was a graduate of Paris High School and Illinois Wesleyan University. She was a member of Terre Haute Twelve Points Chapter 528 Order of Eastern Star, and Sarasota Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America, where she was active with the Swingers Dance Group, was a member and past queen of NYLA Temple 152 Daughters of the Nile and was a member of Supreme Temple Daughters of the Nile.

Memorial services were at Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th St., with the Rev. Steve Moore officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Memorial Park.

The family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2001 S. Lindbergh Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63131-3597.
