Childhood
Dido grew up in a family of four which included Claire, her housekeeper mother; her father, a literary agent; and her brother, Rollo. Named for a Carthaginian queen from mythology, she was a bit embarrassed by her given name as a child. She'd often have to lie about it, just to avoid embarrassment. Although she may have had to face some teasing, Dido has been lucky enough to be musically inclined for most of her life. She entered the Guildhall School of Music in london at age six, and by age ten, was a prodigy at the violin, the piano, and the recorder.
Early Adulthood
As a teenager, Dido spent much of her time touring and performing classical tunes with her string ensemble. After graduating from high school, Dido attended law school and worked as a literary agent, as well as keeping up with her music. She sang with various groups all over London, one of which included her brother's band, Faithless. Faithless released their first album, Reverence, in 1995. Dido helped write some of the songs and sang in two of the tunes. For two years, Dido toured with Faithless. After that was over with, she began to cut some of her own demos, and was eventually signed by the Arista Record label.
Recent Years
Dido's debut album, No Angel, was released in the US in June 1999. It got off to a slow start, but eventually gained enough exposure to make it go platinum. Dido has also beened signed with Cheeky Records, her UK label, which is the same label Faithless is signed to. She had a few problems with this label, however, and No Angel's release in her native country was inexplicably postponed. Because of this, she has spent the last year-and-a-half on tour in the United States, unable to see her family and Bob, her lawyer boyfriend of five years. Her record was finally released in London in October, and she'll be heading home soon to tour Europe.
Quotes

"I'm not good at writing weird stuff...I've got to know what my song means, just for my own benefit, or it becomes veyr hollow when you actually sing it night after night. I'll leave the more mysterious thing to other people."

"I sometimes think it would be really funny at some point halfway through the show just to get down and start break-dancing -- do some amazing move, for like a minute -- and then just get up and carry on dancing really badly."

"[Eminem] is totally charming...and I get absolutely no misogynist vibe from him whatsoever. Whether you like Eminem or not, that song ["Stan"] is a great story."

"Nobody knows who the hell I am there [in her home country, England]. I should send my mum to buy 20 copies.."
