Next Big Things The Toronto International Film Festival raises the curtain on a baker's dozen of hot Canadian actors and filmmakers Gord McLaughlin Inside Entertainment Wednesday, September 03, 2003 FABRIZIO FILIPPO In Hollywood North, Fabrizio Filippo plays a 'serious actor' who gets a big head by working alongside a movie star. You might expect the same from angel- faced Filippo, who started in Toronto theatre and has since appeared in the TV series Action and Queer as Folk. But when he recently shot the miniseries Lives of the Saints with screen goddess Sophia Loren, "I was never not starstruck." Now living in Toronto, Filippo is writing for the theatre, appearing in the upcoming Woody Harrelson-directed play This is Our Youth, and developing a dark-humoured TV series about public relations. Making his own opportunities, says Filippo, is one way to attain the gratification he got from Action and Gary Burns' waydowntown (2000). "I just don't like the idea of spending the rest of my life auditioning for stuff I'm not 100 percent on. I've got to try to follow my passion." |
