Origin / History of the Archer Name

Thought to be an occupational name for a bow-man from Middle English 'archere', or Old French 'arch(i)er', from 'arcus' bow.  Variations include: Archar, Archere, Archier, Arquier Arsher, Arshire, and Larcher.
