Origin / History of the Badger Name

A patronymic name, Badger is believed to be either a surname linked to the occupation of making or supplying sacks, from an early English word 'bagge' or maybe a nickname for a person who had similar characteristics to a badger - secretive or withdrawn.  Now rather rare as a surname, it is said to mainly be found in Kent, although it has been recorded in early rolls and registers in Yorkshire and Derbyshire.
