William Clapham and Susannah Brookes ©

Online records and Ancestry Public Trees1 indicate William was the son of Richard Clapham and his wife Agnes, and that he was baptized in Little Harrowden on the 24th September, 16601

Little Harrowden is an agricultural village which lies approximately 5km west of Finedon and 13km south-south-east of Rothwell2.  Harrowden is mentioned in the Open Domesday Book3 as part of the properties included in the lands of the Bishop of Coutances.  The Little Harroden is one of the longest and narrowest parishes in Northamptonshire and is built around the Church of St Mary the Virgin, which dates back to circa 1190.

Records indicate William, from Little Harrowden, married a Susannah Brookes, of Finedon Parish, in the All Saints Parish Church at Great Harrowden on the 16th June, 16894.  Again actual record has not been sighted.  Great Harrowden is approximately 1km east-south-east of Little Harrowden.

Susannah is believed to have been baptized in Finedon, around 1670, but again to-date no record has been sighted.

It appears William and Susannah only had two children4: Richard c1692, and William 1695, he married Piercy Horne in 1724.  A reference to son William’s baptism record indicates his father was a Tailor.

William died in 1731, and was buried in Finedon on the 27th August6.  Susannah’s place and date of death, and burial record have not yet been located.
