Robert Diment and Hester Edwards ©

It is thought Robert Diment was born in Dorsetshire around 1695.  A possible baptism for him has been located in Poole, Dorset, on May 30 1697¹.  Robert the son of Peace Dimond (of the out Parish) base born.  Poole has long been a major Port and it is believe Peace's family lived there as it appears she was baptised there in 1672, it is also assumed she named her son after her father.

Nothing is known of Robert’s early life.  However, Bradpole Parish Records, Dorset, show that on the 5^th July, 1717, Robert (recorded as Diamond) married Hester (recorded as Esther) Edwards².

A possible baptism has been located for Hester the daughter of William, she was baptised in the Parish Church, Allington, Dorsetshire, on 11^th September, 1692. 

Parish records³ indicate Robert & Hester moved to Symondsbury after their marriage, where they had seven children baptised: Marey 1719-1719; Robert 1720; Ann 1723; William 1726; Martha 1730; Joan 1732; and Mary 1735, she married John Guppy in Netherbury 1763.  Mother's name is spelt in the records as Hester, Hister & Chester and the Diment surname is recorded as Dyment, Dymont & Dimant.  Symondsbury, Allington & Bradpole are all within a 3km radius surrounded by traditional Dorset farming countryside and it is an assumption that Robert was an agricultural Labourer who may have moved around for work.

Symondbury Parish records show Hester, wife of Robert Dimmentt, was buried in the Symondsbury Parish Churchyard of St John the Baptist on 6th June, 1742³.  Robert Diment, Widower, was buried on 24th January, 1748³, also in St John the Baptist Churchyard.
