George Johnson and Mary Bradbury ©

The assumption is that George was born in or around Bedworth, around 1765.  A baptism has been found for a George, in All Saints Parish Church Bedworth, on the 16th November, 1766, the son of Samuel & Ann (nee Spencer)1.

In the same church on the 20th September, 17892, George married Mary Bradbury.  They were both from the Parish and were married by Bann, George signed his name and Mary made her Mark.  The marriage was conducted by the Curate J. Howlette in the presence of Ruth Lakin and William Courts.

Mary, also from Bedworth and the daughter of Thomas Bradbury and his wife Mary (nee Jequis), was baptised in the All Saints Parish Church on 13th May, 17701.

The Baptismal records of Bedworth1 indicate George and Mary had 8 children.  The Parish Records indicates the first four children: Mary age 6, George age 4, Ann age 2 and Thomas were all Baptized on the 22nd May 1796, the next two: Susannah age 4 and William age 2 in August 1801; Samuel age 2 in August 1805; and John age 3 in April 1809.

George died in 1825 at the age of 60, and was buried in the All Saints Parish Churchyard on the 26th July3.

A Mary Johnson, age 70, has been located on the 1841 census4 living in Randles End, Bedworth with her son Samuel Johnson age 35 and grandson George Butler age 20.

Mary died at the age of 82 and was buried in the All Saints Bedworth Parish Churchyard on the 1st August 18503.
