Charles Knight & Sarah Morris ©

The ninth child and third son of Joseph Knight and Elizabeth (nee Mustin), Charles was baptized on the 11th June, 1786, in St James Parish Church Badsey, Worcestershire1.

On the 22nd April, 18114, Charles married Sarah Morris, after Banns had been read,  in St James Parish Church in Badsey.  They were both of the Parish and both made their mark, the officiating Curate was Robert Harmeris and the witnesses were J Simpson & Elizabeth Mason.  It thought J Simpson was possibly a cousin of Charles.

Sarah, the daughter of James Morris and his wife Ann (nee Done), was baptized on the 9th November, 1794, in St James Church, Badsey1.

The 1841 Census2 has Charles and Sarah, recorded as Night, living in Badsey.  Charles is aged 55, an Agricultural Labourer, Sarah is recorded as age 45.  With them are children: Charlotte, age 18; Charles, age 15; William, age 14; Ann, age 11; John, age 8; George, age 6; and Richard, age 4.  Records on FamilySearch indicate Charles & Sarah also had sons Henry 1812; Joseph 1813-1814; Joseph 1816; and daughters: Sally 1819; and Hannah 1821, she married William Robins 1839; Anne (c1822-c1828); Charlotte 1823; Elizabeth 1825; Charles 1826; William 1828; Anne 1830; John 1833; George 1835; and Richard 1837.

In 18512, Charles and Sarah are still in Badsey, Charles is now a 65year old Farm Labourer, and Sarah is aged 56.  With them are children William 23; Ann 20; John 18; George 16; Richard 14; and grandson Samuel Ingles Knight.  All are recorded as being born in Badsey.

Still in Badsey at the time of the 1861 Census2, Charles is recorded as a 75year old Labourer, and his wife Sarah as age 66.  Still with them is their unmarried 33year old son William, and their daughter Anne Done, age 31.

Charles and Sarah are recorded on the 1871 Census2 still in the Village of Badsey, there is no occupation listed for the 86year old Charles, Sarah is now 78 and with them are son William, still unmarried at age 43, their widowed daughter Anne, age 40, and her children: William Done, age 7; and John Done, age 3; and an unmarried grandson Samuel Knight, age 27.

Charles died, at the age of 87 in Badsey, on the 28th March, 18723.  His occupation was given as Agricultural Labourer and cause of death as Natural Decay.  The Informant was his daughter Ann and the death was registered the same day as his death.  Charles was buried in the St James Churchyard, Badsey with Aldington, on the 31st March, which that year was Easter Monday5.

Sarah died on 31st October, 18793 in Badsey, her age also recorded as 87, her occupation was given as Widow of Charles Knight, Agricultural Labourer, and the cause of death was Natural Decay.  Her daughter Ann registered her death on the 5th November.  Sarah was buried on the 4th November in Churchyard of St James, Badsey with Aldington5.  It is not known if there is or was a marker for either Charles or Sarah's final resting place.
