Origin / History of the Wesson/Weston Name

A locational surname and derived from the Old English Westan-Tun, Wesson indicated ‘one who lives west of the village or town’.  Surnames became necessary when the Poll Tax was introduced  in England in the 13yh Century and several variations of the name, such as Wasson, Wason, Weson, Wessing, Westen, Weston/e, and Wison can be found in the records.
