Twas The Day Of Opening Season
By: SunRae copyright2001

Twas the day of opening season
when all thru the lake
You could hear the reels singing
trying to catch fish to
brag on the take.

While me in my skeeter,
my buddy in his ranger,
were off into oblivion the
big fish to put in danger.

With fifty pounds of gear, weighing
down the bow of the boat.
The one hundred fifty merc,
was busy keeping us afloat.

The depth finder busy
beeping out it's song.
With joyous anticipation we
all followed impatiently along.

We settled on a cove
that looked just right.
But soon fell on every anglers
fate, they just wouldn't bite.

So we sat there awhile
Just trying to think.
While my buddy was giving
the live well a drink.

When off in the distance a
lunker was jumping with glee.
I turned so fast in the boat,
I tore up my knee.

On shimano, on Daiwa,
on Zebco, On Abu, AWAY!
No matter what we used
it failed that day.

I swear I heard him laugh
as he swam out of site.
I'll be back another day
to give you a good fight.
