"Americans Speaking Our Peace" is a Ludington, Michigan based antiwar citizens group using Not in Our Name as a core document. Meetings are held at People's Church, 115 W. Loomis Street.
On the evening of Wednesday March 5, the Ludington Visiting Writers Series will hold a very important poetry open mic reading event entitled “Poetry for Peace.” Our special guest reader that evening will be the wonderful poet and good friend of the LVWS, Judith Minty. This event is in conjunction with similar poetry readings that will be taking place all over the country that day, as part of a Poetry For Peace movement organized by Poets Against the War. You can go to their website - poetsagainstthewar.org – to get the whole story.
Although Judith Minty will be our featured poet, our event will be an open mic for any local poet who wants to read a peace poem. Even if you are not a poet, you are encouraged to get up and read a peace poem by someone else. And if you do not have a peace poem to read, we can supply you with one at the reading. Thousands of peace poems have been published on the Poets Against the War website, many by internationally prominent poets. So just find one that moves you, bring it and read it.
This is a “poetry only” event, so there will be no speeches made. Of course, we include music in that category, so if you are a musician, and have a peace song you would like to share, come and do it.
Our country needs your support. Please come Wednesday night, March 5, and help send a simple message to our leaders . . . the people of America are opposed to war with Iraq.
In addition, a parallel salon-style discussion group meets at Peoples Church at 6:30 p.m. each Sunday as a forum for antiwar debate.

The "not in our name" call issued by "Americans Speaking Our Peace" reaches across creedal and political boundaries, bringing together diverse groups within the local community. Anyone who is opposed to war in Iraq is invited to attend these events. For more information, local residents can contact Judith Dila via telephone at 843-4512 or by e-mail. We will update the site as necessary and information on upcoming peace events will be posted.
This web site is part of a grass roots effort to link our community to the larger national and international effort to promote a world-wide culture of peace and tolerance. It is an interactive site, so feel free to leave your name, an informative link, a quote from another individual, or speak your own 'peace' using the communication links available in each section. It provides the opportunity to read the "Not in Our Name" core document, as well as a means for local people -- and other people from all over the United States and the world -- to speak out in favor of a peaceful solution instead of military intervention.
