Know all men by these present that we Joseph Goodwin and his wife Dorcas Goodwin of the County of Copiah in the State of Mississippi for and in consideration of our good will for the Mount Shady Grove Baptist Church in said county have granted bargained and sold by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto Willis Beard the parties in charge of said church and Noah Lagton, Ruffin Johnson, Harrison Watts and Peter Braxton deacons of said church and their successors in office for the sole use and benefit of said church the following described land lying and being in said County to wit four acres of land on the west side of the E1/2 of SE1/4 of Section 18 Township 9 Range located as to be one acre wide and four acres long and to have two acres in each half of said E1/2 of SE1/4 of Section 18 and to adjoin for the whole four acres in length the western line of said E1/2 of SE1/4 of Section 18 provided always if said church shall cease to occupy said land or use it or permit it to be used for any other purpose than church school or burial purpose then the said shall ? facto revert to the said Joseph Goodwin his heirs and assigns In testimony whereof we have hereunto set our hands and seals this 4th day of August 1874.
