A Short Biography on HG Eusebius Thirumeni

HG Philipose Mar Eusebius Metropolitan, the son of Mr. P.G. Thomas and Mrs. Saramma Thomas of Puthen Parambil, was born at Naranganam, Kozhencherry in Pathanamthitta district of Kerala, India on June 16, 1931. After attending schools, he passed Intermediate and B. Sc. From Aluva U.C. College. From 1954 to 1962 he was an employee of Southern Railway and in 1962 he resigned from the Southern Railway employment and started with theological studies and obtained B.D. from Serampoor University, M. Th. From U.T. College Bangalore and Post Graduate Diploma In Theology from Geneva University.

He was ordained as Deacon on 21st December 1972 and as priest on 7th June 1974. During this period he was noted for his spiritual leadership and served as General Secretary of MGOCSM, Secretary / Superior of Thadakam "Kristhushishya Ashram", Lecturer of Calcutta Bishops College, Secretary of Andhra Cyclone Relief Activities, and Professor for Church History in Orthodox Theological Seminary.

On 14th May 1983 he was ordained as a 'Ramban' by the then Catholicose Designate HG Mathews Mar Coorilose (now Catholicose and Malankara Metropolitan HH Moran Mar Baselios Marthoma Mathews II) at Parumala. On 15th May 1985 he was ordained as an Episcopa and given the name Philipose Mar Eusebius by Catholicose HH Baselios Marthoma Mathews I at Puthiyakavu St. Mary's Orthodox Church. From 1st August 1985 he has been designated as Assistant Metropolitan of Thumpamon Diocese and from 1990 onwards he became the Metropolitan of Thumpamon Diocese.

A renowned theologian, an eminent scholar and author, a good orator and an able administrator and above all a man of the Word of God, he has all the qualities of a spiritual leader and good shepherd. He has represented Malankara Orthodox Church and attended World Christian Council and Christian Conference of Asia. He has served as the Manager of Malankara Orthodox Church Corporate Colleges, President of Mar Gregorios Orthodox Christian Students Movement (M.G.O.C.S.M.), Vice President of Malankara Sabha Mission Board, Chairman of Bangalore Ecumenical Christian Centre, and President of Malankara Orthodox Church Inter Church Relations Committee. Above all, as the Metropolitan of Thumpamon Diocese, established in 1876, which presently consists of 4 Cathedrals, 107 Churches, and 14 Chapels and other educational institutions and charitable organizations, he guides everybody as a good shepherd with his intelligence, wisdom, love and vision.
