BOUDREAU,
Charles Benedict: January 7, 1994, The Chronicle-Herald/The Mail-Star,

1994, in the Halifax Infirmary. Born in Port Felix, Guysborough County,
he was a son of the late Edmund and Laura (Pellerine) Boudreau. He was
a member of the Royal Canadian Army for 25 years and veteran of the
Second World War and the Korean Conflict. He was employed with
Maplehurst apartments as a cleaner. He is survived by several cousins.
He was predeceased by a sister, Margaret; brother, Clayton. Visitation
will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home, Dartmouth,
where funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Rev. R. MacDonald officiating.
Burial will follow in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers,
donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society.
DeCOSTE, William ‘Curtis’: Friday February 11, 2005, The Halifax Herald Limited: DeCOSTE, Wm. Curtis - 72, Boylston, Guysborough Co., passed away Thursday, February 10, 2005, in Guysborough Memorial Hospital, after a long battle with cancer, surrounded by his family. Born December 1, 1932, to the late Billy and Martha (Levangie) DeCoste (Mulgrave). He started work with the Canadian National Railway as a telegraph operator working his first shift at West Bay Road, then at many other stations between North Sydney and Moncton, N.B. In 1975, the family moved to Moncton where Curtis worked as a train dispatcher, then chief train dispatcher and later with the communications department. After 38 years of service with the CNR, he and his family retired to Boylston in 1989. Curtis was dedicated in his service to the community and was actively involved with the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 81, holding office as president and in many other capacities, starting the Youth Dart League; a chair for Meals on Wheels; worked with the Boylston/Manchester Fire Department; the AA Program as member, regional representative and board member of Recovery House; member of the N.S. Safe Driving Committee; a member of St. Patrick's parish, Guysborough Intervale and Finance Committee. He chaired bowling, darts and curling. He was president of many seniors organizations: Boylston Bayview Seniors Club; Antigonish/Guysborough Seniors Council; N.S. Federation of Senior Citizens and Pensioners and the National Pensioners and Senior Citizens Federation; Zone Representative for the Guysborough County Older Adult Games; coordinator for Help a Senior Project. He received the Queen's Jubilee Medal (2002) award for outstanding contributions on senior issues and the N.S. Provincial Exceptional Volunteer Award. Curtis played short stop for the Antigonish Red Raiders when they won the Maritime A Championships in 1958 and 1963; was a founding member of the Umpires Association for the Antigonish area and was Umpire in Chief for the Eastern County's Softball Association; Rural Hockey League Statistician. He leaves to mourn his wife of 52 years, Helen (Purcell); sons, Curtis (Sharon), St. Albert, Alta.; Stephen (Dawn), Riverview, N.B.; Gerard (Judy), Fredericton, N.B.; Mark (Jean Saint-George), Montreal, Que.; Patrick (Emmerich Kremeth), Toronto, Ont.; Timothy (Cheryl Benoit), Edmonton, Alta.; daughters, Michelle (Mike) Chisholm, Ohio; Celeste (Iain) MacMullin, St. Andrews; Jeannine (Fred) Munro, Guysborough Interval; Suzette (Pierre) Morell, Pomquet; Cari (Stuart Smith), Riverview, N.B.; Krista (John Bastin), Antigonish; 26 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sister, Mary Fougere, Creignish; brother, Ambrose, Mulgrave. He was predeceased by his brother, Bert; sister, Maureen MacDougall-Keddy. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Saturday and 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Sunday in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Guysborough. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at: www.haverstocks.com DOIRON, Ernest J.: April 29, 1993, The Halifax Herald Limited: Doiron, Ernest J. - 75, Richmond, Ont., died April 23, 1993, in Ottawa Civic Hospital. Born in Charles (sic) Cove, Guysborough County, he was a son of the late Frank and Flossie Doiron. He served in the Canadian Army during the Second World War and the Korean War. After retiring from the army, he worked for the Department of National Defence in Ottawa until retirement. He is survivied by his wife, Joyce; four daughters, Dianne (Mrs. Joe Beaulieu), Kemptville, Ont.; Gloria (Mrs. Gary Johns), Spencerville, Ont.; Roxanne (Mrs. Carl McLean), Ottawa; Melissa, at home; brother, Andrew, Pictou; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son in infancy; sister, Elsie; two brothers, John, Raymond. Funeral was April 26 in Lee Cummings Funeral Home, North Gower, Ont. Cremation followed. GERRIOR, Marshall James: Monday September 27, 2004, The Halifax Herald Limited: GERRIOR, Marshall James (Ret. C.W.D.) - It is with great sadness in our hearts that we announce that Marshall passed away from cancer on Friday, September 24, 2004. His main concern was to help his family and not dwell on his own struggle. He faced it with courage and maintained a positive outlook. He enjoyed having visitors and all the treats. He was thankful for the friendship and care that was given during his stay at Palliative Care, 7A Centennial Unit and 4B Transitional Unit. He appreciated celebrating communion during his stay in the hospital. Marshall was born in Guysborough on December 31, 1927, to Prudence (Coleman) and Wilfred Gerrior. For 54 years, he was the loving husband of Bertha (Smith), and the loving father of daughters, Dawn (Mrs. Jack Marshall), Darlene (Mrs. Michael Megaffin) and Deborah Gerrior-Thomas. He will be missed by grandchildren, James, Luke and Lauren Marshall, Danielle Megaffin, and Haley and Dylan Thomas. He is also survived by sister, Teresa; and by many relatives. He was predeceased by brothers, Floyd, Coleman and Donald. Marshall was a member of St. Mark's Church for more than 50 years. He served as warden, council member, member of Word 5 Committee, member of the Diocesan Parish Relations, supporter of The Bishop's Men and Anglican Foundation of Canada and on the committee for Christians for Refugees. He helped settle refugee families in Canada and was proud of their accomplishments. He was an auctioneer for St. Mark's Mothers Union to raise money for their travelling fund. His great sense of humour was always enjoyed. As a young man, he served in the Pictou Highlanders E Company, reserve army. He later joined the Navy and retired after 26 years of service. During this time, he served on the training ships HMCS Charlottetown II, Uganda and Ontario. He continued on the HMCS Warrior and Magnificent, and a year on the HMCS Haida in the Korean War. After returning, he sailed on HMCS Quebec, Victoriaville, Yukon, Bonaventure and Skeena. The latter part of his career he was land based. Marshall enjoyed playing bridge, going to horse races, movies and watching golf tournaments, boxing, Jeopardy and Who Wants to be a Millionaire on television. He was part owner of Fre-Mar Grocery in St. Margaret's Bay and later was part owner of Hal-Mar Jobbers on Robie Street. Marshall was proud to have served as Worshipful Master of the Royal Standard Lodge 2003/2004 and was also a member of Antiquity Preceptory No. 5, York Rite, Scottish Rite and Philae Temple Shrine, Halifax. Arrangements under the care of J.A Snow Funeral Home. Cremation will take place. Memorial service will be held in St. Mark's Church, on the corner of Gottingen and Russell Streets, Halifax, Tuesday, September 28, at 1 p.m., Rev. David Dellapinna officiating. Reception by loving friends of St. Mark's Church will follow downstairs. Ashes will be placed at a later date in West Cooks Cove, Salmon River, where he fished and swam as a young boy and, as a young man, enjoyed going there with his wife and small children. HORTON, Judson David: Monday May 30, 2005, The Halifax Herald Limited: HORTON, Judson David - 74, Canso, died Saturday, May 28, 2005, in the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born in Canso, he was a son of the late Hiram and Alfreda (Bond) Horton. He was a mail carrier, a member of the Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, Canso, and a veteran of the Korean War serving with the Royal Canadian Army. He was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 46, Canso. Surviving are his wife, the former Blanche (Snow); daughters, May Snow, Halifax; Jean Goodwin, Renous, N.B.; brother, Douglas, Belleville, Ont. He was predeceased by his sister, Florence Bond. Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. today in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Canso. Funeral mass will take place at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 31, in Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, Father Daniel Boudreau officiating with burial in the parish cemetery. Frank left us suddenly at the age of 80; predeceased by his parents, Joe and Isabelle; brother, Donald and his only son Brian; survived by his dear and loving wife Hana, whom he dearly loved and Hemer, his 4 legged newspaper fetcher. He is survived by his two daughters; Cheryl of Nanaimo; Heather (Hans) of Ottawa; 7 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and siblings George, Mark and Isabel, of Boston and their families. Frank was born in Glencoe, NS, where, at the tender age of seventeen, he enlisted in the North Nova Scotia Highlanders, 3rd Division. A veteran of WWII, he proudly served in the Normandy Invasion and the Liberation of Holland. Frank re-enlisted in the regular forces Artillery in 1948. He was a veteran of the Korean War and served in Canada and nine years in Europe with NATO Forces. After 32 years, he retired in CFB Gagetown, NB, moving to Kimberley, where he lived until his passing. Golfer, fisherman, poker player - Frank enjoyed going to his office. “The Scully” for a few beers, Keno and a chuckle or two. Frank could spin a yarn like no other with an amazing memory for details and names. He kept us laughing with his jokes, crooked grin and opinionated ways. During Frank's journey through life he made many friends in many countries, who remained close until the end. Frank was soft-hearted and larger than life. He will be sadly missed. CHEERS” MacEACHERN, George Ira Wallace: Monday, May 17, 2004, The Halifax Herald Limited: MacEACHERN, George Ira Wallace - 69, Dartmouth, passed away May 16, 2004, in Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Mulgrave, he was a son of the late Marjorie MacEachern. George was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He worked for DOT and drove a taxi in Dartmouth for 42 years. He was a member of the Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffalo's, Harbour Lodge No. 53, Pride of Dartmouth Lodge No. 54, Eastern Lodge No. 8686, Eastern Passage, Somme Legion No. 31, and a member of the Grand Lodge of Ontario. George was also an avid dart player. Surviving are brother, Charlie (Rose), Halifax; stepchildren; daughters, Katherine (Ken), Patricia Boutilier, Dartmouth; Heather Boutilier, Eastern Passage; Christine Albert (Michael), Kathleen Gaetz, Dartmouth; sons, Ernie Benjamin Jr., Dartmouth; Wayne Clattenburg (Candace), West Chezzetcook; 16 grandchildren. He was predeceased by wife, Barbara "Ruth"; first wife, Velda MacEachern; sister, Rowena; brother, Gordon. Born January 4, 1930, in Port Felix, Guysborough Co., he was the eldest son of the late Jerome and Mary (Wells) Marr. Vince joined the navy in 1949 and retired in 1974. He served aboard various ships, including service in Korea in 1951, with his last posting being in Shearwater. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 161, Gaetz Brook, for the past 30 years. Vince is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, the former Doris Alma Parker; sons, Barry (Maureen), Robert (Holly); daughters, Linda (Cliff) Myrer, Marilyn (Paul) Graham, Darlene (Wayne) Crowell; grandchildren, Carrie, Tammy, Billy, Farrah, Michael, Dennis, Kristin, Jenny; great-grandchildren, Courtney, Ashley, Nicky, Amber, Alyssa, Jordan; sisters, Venita (Johnny) Charlton, Patsy Sharpe, Sheila Conrod; brother, Robert Wells; daughter-in-law, Linda Marr; many nieces and nephews. Ambrose Elliot "Bud" O'Connor of Truro passed away suddenly, at the age of 80, in the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax with Dolores, his loving wife of 51 years, by his side. Bud was a 25 year veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces having proudly served as a peacekeeper for his country in Korea, Germany and Cypress. He was a long-standing member of the Royal Canadian Legion in Winnipeg, Guysborough, and Truro, as well as a member of the Immaculate Conception Parish in Truro and of St. Ann's Parish in Guysborough. Bud is also survived by his daughter, Darlene, her husband, Ray, and son, Dan, and his wife, Suzan. His surviving siblings are Charles Douglas "Chuckie", Lawrence Joseph, and Mary. Bud was predeceased by his parents, Guy Francis O'Connor and Emma Catherine (Cunningham) O'Connor, and his 12 other siblings, Robert Francis, Hilda Margaret, Louis Edmond, Lawrence, Guy Patrick, John Golbert, James Bernard, Raphael Tompkins, Veronica Bridget, William David, Kenneth Leo, and Annabelle. Funeral mass will be held in St. Ann's Parish in Guysborough on Wednesday, February 27, at 11 a.m., Father Jonathan officiating. Burial will follow in St. Ann's Cemetery in Guysborough.
