Holt County's
Historical Society
About Us
The Holt County Historical Society was organized in 1972 to
preserve the heritage of Holt County Missouri for future generations. Properties
owned by the organization include:
|
The 5 acre
former Fortescue School grounds located at the north edge of Fortescue. |
|
A two story brick
school, built in 1906, from the brick fired on the site. |
|
Ball-Roupe farmstead, a gift from Mark and Cynthia Roupe, is located about 2 miles
south of Fortescue. The 3 acre plot contains a frame four room house built
in 1869 and various outbuildings. |
|
The Methodist
Church at 115 Ada Street Fortescue was built in 1896. It was given to the
Society by the Fortescue United Methodist congregation in 1997. The historic
frame building with beautiful stained glass windows houses the Society
library along with newspapers, obituary and family records and other
artifacts. |
