Holt County's Historical Society 

 

 

About Us

The Holt County Historical Society was organized in 1972 to preserve the heritage of Holt County Missouri for future generations. Properties owned by the organization include:

bullet

 The 5 acre former Fortescue School grounds located at the north edge of Fortescue.

bullet

A two story brick school, built in 1906, from the brick fired on the site.

bullet

Ball-Roupe farmstead, a gift from Mark and Cynthia Roupe, is located about 2 miles south of Fortescue. The 3 acre plot contains a frame four room house built in 1869 and various outbuildings.

bullet

The Methodist Church at 115 Ada Street Fortescue was built in 1896. It was given to the Society by the Fortescue United Methodist congregation in 1997. The historic frame building with beautiful stained glass windows houses the Society library along with newspapers, obituary and family records and other artifacts.
