Koivula Family Poem
written by Jane Kincaid
All the way from Finland across the Atlantic Ocean,
Konsta met Amanda; It created some commotion.
He wanted her for his wife and she agreed to be,
And now we're here to celebrate our family history.
They had a pile of children, a whole dozen plus one more,
There was Emil, David and Elsa and Toivo that made four.
Jalo, Sigrid, and Ida, this family was growing still,
Along came Hilja, Urho, and Aina lots of bellies to fill.
Finally, Andrew, Iver and Leo were the last ones of the bunch.
Imagine life at their house everyday at lunch.
Living on a farm there were plenty of chores to do,
Cows, a horse, chickens, and lots of farm cats too.
Blueberries were the highlight of the summer there,
Every child with delight picked a fair share.
They also had thirteen grandchildren, oh how fast they came,
Not one was born to a son to carry the Koivula name.
There was Barbara, Paul, Betty and Vera who were Elsa's four,
Then Evelyn, Frans, and Sylvia, just a few more.
Winslow and Viola, Wesley and Annabella too,
Along with Donald and Jane, that completed the crew.
Andrew and Iver are the only children still alive,
But today in our hearts all their memories with us remain and thrive.
