Ottoview History

This property is privately owned by the "Tidd" family.
The land has been in this family since
late 1800's. The mountain at that time did
not have many trees. The land was soon
cleared to make way for fields and pasture
land which was used for cattle or sheep.
In season hay would be cut and harvested
to use for winter months to feed animals.
As the years went by the land was
used for various reasons. Gardens were made and
lots of vegetables would grow and be prepared
for winter storage.

Time passed and farming became less and less in
this area as fishing became the main industry.
New generations brought new ideas, adventures and lifestyles.
Change was inevitable. The land grew up into
a forest with only paths and narrow trails
to the shoreline.

Our relatives, "Dentons", "Frosts", passed on and
the land was handed down through the generations
in one way or another.Today the land
is owned byClaudia & James Tidd inherited from
Claudia's parents, Elma M.(Frost) Tidd, daughter of
Otto & J.Marguerite,and her husband, Ainsley L.Tidd.

It was the wish of Elma to have
a spot on the mountain to come view
Little River and the St. Marys' Bay.
She had remembered doing as a child with
her parents, Otto & Jesse Marguerite Frost, and other
relatives. Her dream became a project for
her children to want to do for her.
The work began in 1996. We started clearing
the land on this mountain. As each year
went by and the work continued, we enjoyed
the pleasures and good times we had at
the Look-Off.

The beauty of it all was just too
much not to share with others , so..... it
was decided to open this place to the
public. We named it the "Little River "Ottoview" Look-Off
after Elmas' father, Otto. He was a farmer/fisherman
and had took care of the land in
his time. The name, Ottoview, has a hidden meaning
which is ' ought-to-view '. The bit of
humor seemed to fit since it is a
place one really ought to view!

The added additions, such as play things for
the children, have been donated as well as
a few picnic tables and barbeques. The Horseshoe Pit
was built by family and friends. Claudia has added her talents with painted creatures and
flower arrangements etc. These only add a bit to the
natural beauty one can see. Many wildflowers grow
freely and new growth is evident each year.

It was a sad thing to have to cut
diseased trees down a few years ago but much beauty still remains
with the solitude and great view..

Community gatherings have taken place here as well as
Fund Raiser events. Many locals loved the challenge
of Horseshoe Games.

Along the pathway you will view "DayDreamers Hideaway"
which is a small alcove. The "Lovins' Trees "
are there with little hearts (provided) for
couples to hang on the tree to commerate
their presence there. This is a popular place for folks visiting
; Many have signed the Guest Book that is
provided at the Look-Off and it is
a joy to ones heart to read the
many kind words written in it by guests.
Folks have vistied as far away as Israel,
Australia, British Columbia, from US -- Georgia, New Hampshire,
Mass., N.Carolina, Texas, Florida, California,Pennsylvannia,Oregon,New York, and
many others Bermuda, and elsewhere.

In 2006 we decided to venture out and build cabins
to rent but in 2010 we closed
the cabins for rental. It was an exciting experience
and many guests who came and went enjoyed their
experiences here.They all gave
such kind words and much praise for this
special place. We have the cabins for our
personal family & friends to use....enjoy family
gatherings and make Ottoview available for folks
to come and visit. It is a
place to beautiful not to share. Visiting hours are
posted at the entryway of the trail into
the Look-Off.

We thank God for the priviledge it has been to
have this place and share a small portion of
what He has given us. Please contact us if
you would like to to come visit for the
day, for a picnic or event / celebration etc.

There is also walking trail that leads to Tommys Beach
on the Bay of Fundy shoreline. It is
a great place to relax, unwind, collect agate
and find adventure.
