Fish Tales of the Bering Sea

The Day of the CowTHE DAY OF THE COW

A friend of mine is getting ready to leave the island come summer. He has a catamaran he converted into a houseboat he wants to sell and then he will buy another vessel somewhere else. As a result he has been scouring the web looking for a bargain and also reads the maritime news sites for possible relocation sites. He found an article about an unfortunate Japanese trawler that sank at sea somewhere halfway between Russia and Japan. Fortunately the crew was rescued, but their explanation for the sudden sinking of the vessel left the authorities in doubt of its veracity.

The trawler was cruising along, when suddenly, wham! Out of the sky a cow dropped with such force that it blasted through all of the decks of the ship and out the bottom, hence creating a breach in the hull that led to the sinking of the vessel. The crew was held for interrogation and not released for several months. The authorities thought the crew had scuttled the ship for insurance purposes and that a case of fraud was involved. No one believed the cow story. An investigation of the wreck revealed no evidence of sabotage, but there was also no reasonable explaination for the damage done to the ship. The crew was finally released and the insurance paid the company's claim.

At some point in time this news reached Russia and some consciencious individual finally confessed to his part in the launching of the beefy "meateor" that hit the ship and sunk it. A crew on a Russian military aircraft that was doing practice manueuvers stopped for fuel. The crew decided it would be a great joke to steal a cow grazing near the runway and take it home with them, though what the joke was and who they were going to play it on was never revealed. The unfortunate bovine began to panic once the craft was airborne, breaking loose from its restraints. It began charging around in the cargo bay, threatening the ballast of the craft in a dangerous way that could have caused it to crash. To save their airplane and their lives the crew opened the cargo bay door and chased the cow off the plane at an altitude somewhere between 10,000 and 30,000 feet. It just so happened they were flying over the freighter when they launched the cow and that is how it sunk the ship.

Got MILK???    Where's the BEEF???    Holy COW!!!
