PUBLIC CONSULTATION MEETINGS

OVER 300 MARCOOLA RESIDENTS RALLY TO THE MEETING ON 1/2/2010
only to be lulled to sleep by having Mr. Water Spiller read us selected extracts
from the South East Queensland WATER STRATEGY Report and tell us to
STOP WASTING WATER

WATER WASTERS

We were told that we are each using 286 litres a day which is well in excess of the Governments target of 200 litres per person per day, and if it doesn't come down then the Marcoola Desalination Plant will be fast-tracked.
Personally our household consists of two adults and we use an average of only 195L/day according to our latest Rates Notice (January 2010).
That's an average of 98 litres each, and we're not even trying.
So - Which of you Guzzlers is using my share?

But Why Bother -

It's obvious that the Government has already decided our fate.
We are the Priority Site and the First to have one of these monstrosities built in our area.
Check the S.E.Q. Water Strategy Report for PROOF.
It's to be built on Lot 753 (CG3375) located on the North Western side of The Airport.
Pity about any Future Plans for Any EAST-WEST RUNWAY.

In Fact they have already made a start on the INFRASTRUCTURE.
The 450mm PIPELINE to Marcoola is presently being upgraded and will
be available for connection when the Desal Plant goes on-line in 2017.

VALE E-W RWY
When Crasher suggested locating the Plant on the Runway
He didn't mean THIS RUNWAY!!!

Let's face it - When they've already made up their mind, NO valid argument will make them back down. - Unless it has the magic word ENVIRONMENT in it.
Traverston Dam had the Bottom Breathing Turtle.
( I thought more water would have been a benefit to th' li'l fella) - Moreton Bay has the Dugong. All we have are the Mudjimba Island Tube Worms. (Evidently they don't count since they live on the sea bed?) And even though the pipeline goes through valuable Peat Swamp National Park which is home to a rare frecklefaced flea it will still go ahead unless we can find an endangered species or aboriginal sacred site on-site.
(Howsabout Maroochies Sleeping Mat  or  Coolums old used Condom Midden?)
So - Get out there and start looking!

Back in FEBRUARY 2010 we forecast that your Water Rates would have to TREBLE to accommodate the Desalination Plants.
SORRY! We were WRONG!
Here we are just two months later and already the experts are talking about much higher increases, and they haven't even started construction yet.
