20 Degrees Colder Last Night

When we went to bed, we did not know whether to set the heat or the cold on. We left it cold. This morning, it was 40 degrees on my outdoor thermometer. It was 60 degrees just a short while ago. We woke up freezing and turned the heat on quickly.

This is that time of year when we can't yet pack away the winter clothes, but we need the spring clothes handy. Clothes everywhere! I wish I had an extra closet as big as our bedroom. And if that were the worst of our worries, the world would be a better place.

Martha Stewart

I feel sorry for her. As Judge Judy once commented on her case, saying something to the effect that if someone gives you a hot stock tip, it is only human to act on it. When caught, Martha should have fessed up and paid the fine, then it would all be over, Judge Judy said. The big problem came when Martha decided to lie.

What surprised me was all this hullabaloo over a mere $51,000 deal? For a woman who is worth a billion? That is peanuts compared to what Enron did.

I still like Martha Stewart, although she has one bad case of pride. I can't blame the jury for finding her guilty on all counts, even though I think she was gone after with a little too much vengeance.

I hope she recovers from this. I like her magazine and products at K-Mart. I learned to make better pancakes from her. (The secret is to cook them over low heat, use a darn good nonstick pan and don't use ANY grease in the pan. That way, they cook to a perfect light brown. Grease makes ugly splatter marks.)

McDonald's to Stop Supersizing -- Okay, but ...

What an announcement! I love McDonald's - especially their breakfasts and specialty shakes, but that bit of news had me laughing. Sure, they are going to stop supersizing but not for the purpose of promoting good health for long. Just watch. As soon as this "health announcement" blows over, they will be advertising like this, "Buy one bag of fries, get a second one for half price!" "Buy one Big Mac, get a second one for just a few cents more."

Same as supersizing to me -- maybe worse -- but I will probably fall for it anyway.

Bring on the Milkshakes!

A milkshake is my favorite drink -- wish more restaurants served them -- or at least served a diet caffeine-free soft drink since I don't dare drink a milkshake as often as I'd really like to. Usually I just order water due to the lack of choices. Still, its good to see that dairy is not bad.

DAIRY MAY HELP CURB KIDS' OBESITY
Youngsters who skimp on milk and other dairy food to avoid calories actually appear to substantially increase their risk of becoming overweight, a study found.

Seven Deer

On our morning walk, J.C. pointed out seven deer that were watching us. I whipped out my camera and flashed in their faces before they left. That was the most deer I had seen along the greenway. It was a beautiful sight.

With the warmer weather has come spider webs, gnats and other pesty things, but we are also seeing lawns purple with henbit, other blossoms and a LOT more noisy birds. Time to get out the mosquito repellent. I was lax about it last year and got more eaten up than any other year I can remember. I still prefer walking outside to any other form of exercise, though, and still do 5 miles a day 6 days a week.

Mischievous Cat

Our cat got stuck behind the TV in a mass of cords. I had tried to block off his way in and out, but the sneaky critter managed to crawl into it and could not get out. I didn't even know he was back there until I heard scratching sounds and I had to let him out. He could barely squeeze through, but he made it out.

Amazingly, we had better TV reception. I think he jiggled a loose cable connection. It was funny.

It stopped being funny when he decided that this was a fun thing to do and crawl behind the computer. He broke a network cord which left me offline for some time. Darn cat. Gotta love him, though.

Search Engine Improvements

In attempts to produce a better search engine, one designer has made them personal, remembering which sites you have visited before and displaying them first in a search - sounds a little like spyware, but there's usefulness in it. Other "search engine technologies" are coming out. Good.

Did Bush Serve in Alabama?

I have been and basically still am, a supporter of Bush. It's interesting to read about the $10,000 offer from Gary Trudeau of Doonesbury (who annoys me so much that I give up reading the strip from time to time - but so does Mallard Fillmore lately). Trudeau wants to find one "credible" witness of Bush's service in Alabama. I am not sure what he will call "credible." Anyway, it is an interesting test. Surely one person will come forward. If not, he might be right and all that service might have been invented.

Even if it was, I probably won't move my support from Bush. All of the other choices are worse.

Watched Star Wars & the Oscars a Little

I watched Star Wars last night. The first, original movie is my favorite movie of all time. The movie last night was good -- but it's true: Jar-Jar is more annoying than cute. My husband told me about the time someone edited out Jar-Jar's scenes. The resulting new version became very popular until the editor got caught and had to stop.

I watched a bit of the Oscars.  Lord of the Rings was winning every category it was nominated in. It got old fast. I am glad that a fantasy adventure film did so well, although I was hoping Pirates of the Caribbean would win a little more. Johnny Depp was amazing in that film.
