How's this for an obscure
holiday? Today is World Turtle Day.
I even found a web page about it. Give your pet turtle
extra attention today. :p
Maybe today should be
"Close Call Day." My daughter just called and told me
about a large chemical spill/truck accident at an
intersection she had driven through. (It happened
moments after she passed that spot and dangerous
chemicals did hurt people.)
I was driving through the
bank parking lot when a car started pulling out --
without even looking behind them. Not only that, but
someone in the grocery store isle backed into me. This
seems all too common. Do people not know how to look
behind them before backing up? Is there some gene
certain people are born with that constantly makes them
forget to look behind them?!! Gr-r-r-r.
Earlier, a national morning
show was featuring the DaVinci Code. I could hardly
stomach the whole thing. People actually believe this
junk? Some aspects could be true. I can easily believe
that Jesus was married to Mary, but all of it? Oh
brother. To their credit, the morning show debunked
parts of it. I did not watch the whole thing, though.
For anyone who is checking
Muddy's blog at BloggingCat.com, apparently Angelfire
is having problems with its blogging program and many,
if not all, of their blogs are offline right now. I
don't know how long this will continue -- hopefully, it
will be fixed by tomorrow.
Accidents like this make me
glad that I am not using a blogging program here.
Great movie.
Roger Ebert was right -- Lucas can not write love scenes
well. The music was fantastic. The special
effects and visuals blew me away. It had lots of action.
Obi-Wan, ah! Sexy and wonderful. But it was sad ... so
tragic ... so very depressing. I cried at
the last scene. This does not end happily ever after
(but you knew that already, right?).
I liked how the audience
clapped at the ending. There may be nobody in the
theater to accept the applause but we all enjoyed being
there. It's fun to see a movie with fans. I am glad I
did not wait.
My husband took the day off
work, got us Star Wars tickets, found a nice restaurant
and off we go. I am 49 today (thanks for having me,
Mom). An 80 year old friend told me to enjoy my "youth"
while I still have it. She is right. I feel young today
- maybe that's because I am not yet 50.
I have thought about aging
and my stand on it. First, comes to mind the joke about
"aging is better than the alternative (death)." Then
comes to mind all the people who are proud of their
older age
and speak up for how their lives are better now than ever before.
As for myself, well, yes, I
am glad for the knowledge, relationships and life I am
living right now, but I would be very glad to be this
way in a 20-year-old body. I like Woody Allen's
approach. On a TV interview I saw him say that aging
stinks. Saggy skin stinks. Extra wrinkles stink.
Physical aging is not fun.
I have to agree. I want my
life the way it is now. I want my knowledge and
experience but I want it in a 20-year-old body. If I had
the money, I'd have plastic surgery in many places. Ha!
But I am too busy enjoying life to pine away for youth,
too poor for numerous surgeries -- so off we go to contemplate the deep philosophies in
Star Wars Episode III. :p Okay, maybe there aren't
any. Loaded with special effects, accompanied by
chocolate and popcorn, who cares?
Take the quiz and see if
women are really from Venus. (Apparently we are -- and
we Venusians need to spend more time in English spelling
class.)
You Are From Venus
You love all forms of beauty. You love dressing up and anything luxurious.
A social butterfly, you're incredibly popular and a great host.
You're known for your fairness and affection. And as a frind to all.
Careful though! You're desire to please may make you too willing to conform.
Be yourself. Focus on what matters to you. You'll be all the more popular for it.
These amazing pictures
are going around the Internet and just came to my
mailbox, thanks to Lil S. (when you go to the link,
click on the tiny image to see it full-sized). I was
amazed at the Chinese swimming pool (are those people
really having fun?), but that was just the
beginning. I am not sure I even believe all of these.
I was able to assemble a slide show movie and make
copies for a large group. We decided to go with the -R
format because they are reputably the most compatible
with the most DVD players (inspite of +R claims to be
otherwise).
As expected, some players
could not handle it, even a member of our group with a
new one. For those folks, we are making some +R DVDs. And I didn't even
mention DVD-RAM and RW -- whew! Too many formats and
not enough compatibility.
