NOTES - Dad adds: "I know he applied for a Civil War pension and it was $12 a month. After he died his widow applied for a pension based on her husband's civil war service and she got $9 a month. I saw these records at the National Archives in Washington DC. Those records also told about his first wife in Connecticut who filed for divorce after he left her and he moved to Illinois. His name in the census in Illinois was wrongly spelled as Webster A. Cassel. I knew it was him by his wife’s name of Amanda in the census."

Dad also says there is a story that Webster was so poor that he could not afford the correct clothing and got sick and was excused from service after a time. He does not know for sure if this is true.

There's more information about Webster's regiment. Type in his name at: National Park Service - Civil War Solders & Sailors System to learn more.
