I would like to update you with a little more 
information about this man.  He married Zibiah McCarley, from whom I am 
descended.  He was her second husband.  Charles was in the War of 1812.  I 
have his pension papers.  He enlisted twice from Gallia County, OH.  In them, 
he states he was born in Vermont.  He was discharged in 1815 and was about 40 
years old (which places his birth year as about 1775).  He died about 1840 in 
Kenawha County, VA (although I don't know where this information came from. 
The death date guess is likely incorrect.  The pension file has a letter dated 1841, so he 
obviously wasn't dead in 1840.)
 
Anyway, most folks don't know where he was born, 
or they guess it was in Ohio, or France (because of his surname.)
 
Zibiah's, first husb. was James McDonald, although 
later generations have listed him as McDaniel.  His marr. cert. says 
McDonald.  It appears that it wasn't until his descendents went to Utah that 
they began using McDaniel regularly.  Some of them used McDonald and McDaniel 
interchangeably, and one descendent kept McDonald until his death.
