I also heard from Darlene Hough ().
Some of her notes are below:
I note that you have used the letters from
Sophronia and other family records for sources. They are "treasures"
to have but lack correct information after checking records....which I have
spent years doing.I have been putting it together for the family but until
recently I have not had a computer and am really a "newbie."
I have been corresponding with Dennis Yancey for
years and together we have been able to verify several things on our family
and he has put it on the Yancey web page for me.He was most excited
when I sent him the baptismal record for Phillip Henry (LDS) wherein he named
his father as Alfred M Yancey and his mother as Lucy Yancey (as her maiden
name). Dennis had some information from the family records of a sister to
Phillip Henry that states Lucy was a
Yancey and a cousin to Alfred. She is believed to have been a daughter of
Phillip. Dennis and I are currently trying to find that obscure court record
to prove it .
I do have news on the Banks marriage for Betty
(Elizabeth). She married Ephraim L. Banks in St Clair County, Alabama...her
father Jordan gave permission...this was in 1823.They were divorced by 1828
when Ephraim remarries.Betty is listed with Hetty in the 1830 census with a
child. the child listed had puzzled us as we didn't think Hetty had another
child we didn't know about..Betty later remarries to James Kilpatrick and has
other children..Don't know why Sophronia said she just married a Banks... she
didn't let the family know that she and Phillip were separated either and in
the 1900 census she lists herself as a widow...I'm sure you know by now that
her brother was John Berry Carden not Perry as Grandmother Yancey submitted
for temple work.Vardy did not die when Sophronia said he did either. He lived
another 20 years ..I correspond with a direct descendant of his.
I am also working on the Hamilton line. I note you
submitted Sarah Hamilton as the dau. of Joshua Abraham and have her as
marrying an Easley as another spouse. Joshua is a brother to Abraham and he
married a Rhea...he had a daughter born in 1793 also and she is the one that
married the Easley. Our Sarah married Stephen Tunnel at age 17..they moved to
Ky for a short time as their first child states in a census she was born in
Ky.They then move to Alabama and Mississippi. Stephen dies there and if
you follow the censuses and tax records for her she is always
listed as Tunnell.
I correspond with a direct descendant of
Joshua's named Dorothy Ross who has done a lot of work on her
line...she tells me that it is written in the family record that Abraham went
"west" and they never heard from him again.I have a record that
states he sold the last of his property in 1805 so assume he left before 1812
as he is not on the tax list which is the only one available after the
1797 list ( he is listed on that one) Since some of the Tunnells left
Greene County Tn and moved to Kentucky I have hoped to pick up on Abraham with
them but so far haven't found anything. We do know that Sarah had a brother
that lived in Page County,Iowa but we don't know his given name...I have quite
a list of Hamilton's in Iowa but haven't found the wanted link yet.I did
find the marriage record for Abraham ..or rather the notice he paid taxes
to North Carolina for his license (Sullivan county was considered in NC then )
His wife is not named but Dorothy says she is Martha and I had already
surmised that since Martha Kezia was one of her daughters. You will
remember that Kezia Money was the mother of Stephen.
I have submitted corrections to the Ancestral File
and additions so one of these days they will be added on an
update.
I am also in hot pursuit of Willaim Orten and
Frances Hage ...evidence seems to point that she was German and from
Rowan County..Davidson was formed from Rowan in 1822 and Davie about
5 or 6 years later.
