"First, Do No Harm"
According to the Journal of the American Medical
Association (JAMA),
Allopathic medicine kills at least 225,000 Americans per year,
constituting the third leading cause of death in the United States, after deaths
from heart disease and cancer. What's even more amazing, is how much we
pay for this extinction privilege.
- 12,000 deaths/year from unnecessary surgery
- 7,000 deaths/year from medication errors in hospitals
- 20,000 deaths/year from other errors in hospitals
- 80,000 deaths/year from nosocomial infections in hospitals
- 106,000 deaths/year from nonerror, adverse effects of medications
And the number is most likely even higher. Most of the data is derived from studies
in hospitalized patients only. These estimates do not include
adverse effects that are associated with disability or discomfort, and the estimates
of death due to error are lower than those in the Institute of Medicine (IOM) report
"To Err is Human: Building a Safer Health System"
If
the higher estimates are used, the deaths due to iatrogenic causes would range
from 230,000 to 284,000.
Many allopathic doctors are taught or assume that these risks are an
acceptable component of modern medicine. Thus, surgery seeks to remove the
evidence of problems, and man-made chemical drugs manipulate the body's
processes, suppressing or killing the causes of symptoms. In fact, symptoms are
the body's cry for help, calling attention to an area that needs amending in
order to produce health and well being.
These statistics emphasize the importance of finding
non-toxic solutions to our healthcare problems.
We must continue to research and educate people in
the use of natural medicines and supplements that have been used for thousands
of years and been proven safe over time. For more
information on death by medicine, please visit the American
Iatrogenic Association, devoted to the study and reporting of illness caused by the medical profession, especially by
physicians, and promoting accountability for medical professionals and
institutions. |
Diabetes
The World Health Organization (WHO)
estimates that 177 million people worldwide have diabetes, a figure that's
expected to surpass 300 million by 2025. Tommy G. Thompson, Secretary of the U.S.
Department of Health and Human Services, said “Diabetes is growing at an alarming rate in America. Diabetes has
increased 49% from 1990 to 2000 and projections indicate a 165% increase by the
year 2050.” According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the U.S. population from 1990
to 2000 increased by only 13.2%.
The Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC) reported between 1990 and 2000 that the most dramatic increase
in diabetes reported --- a 70% jump – was seen in people aged 30-39. Dr. Frank
Vinicor, Director of the CDC diabetes program, referred to diabetes as an
apparent “chronic disease epidemic.” Read the article
"Silent Killer" from Time Magazine. Learn how to
combat diabetes naturally.
AIDS
Almost 5 million people became infected with HIV
last year -- the largest number of new infections since the disease was
discovered in 1981, according to the annual 2004 AIDS report from the United
Nations.
Asthma
According to the EPA, asthma afflicts about 20 million
Americans, including 6.3 million children. Since 1980, the biggest growth in
asthma cases has been in children under five. In 2000 there were nearly 2
million emergency room visits and nearly half a million hospitalizations due to
asthma, at a cost of almost $2 billion, and causing 14 million school days
missed each year.
Mental Illness and Disabilities
Jan 13, 2004 -- The Rand Corp. study -- published
in the journal of Health Affairs -- said disability rates rose sharply in the
last two decades among those under 60 years of age. "We've always had
the assumption that medical science is advancing and that people are getting
healthier, but that is not the case," said Darius Lakdawalla, lead author
of the study. The health of young Americans is getting worse. It found the
number of people ages 30-49 who could not care for themselves or do other
routine tasks increased by more than half from 1984 to 2000. The leading
causes of disability are mental illness and musculoskeletal problems. For
those 30- to 39-years-old, the number reporting disabilities increased from 118
per 10,000 people to 182 per 10,000 people from 1984 to 1996. Among those 40- to
49-years-old, the number rose from 212 per 10,000 to 278 per 10,000 in the same
period.
Colonic and Intestinal Problems
The Merck Manual, the medical industry's standard
for the diagnosis and treatment of disease, tells us that colon degeneration is
on the rise. The incidence of diverticulosis has increased dramatically
over the last 40 years. It states, that in 1950, only 10% of adults over
the age of 45 had this disease, in1955 15%, in 1972 30%, and in 1987 almost 50%.
The latest edition states that the incidence "increases rapidly" over
age 40 and that "every person will have many" if they live long
enough, meaning every American adult will have herniation of the large
intestine. A sluggish, constipated, and swollen bowel, retaining pounds of
old fecal matter must be cleansed out in order to heal. Once you clean out
all of this old waste and get the bowel working properly again, the inflammation
is eliminated and the herniations (diverticula) disappear. This requires a
whole grain, high-fiber balanced diet with organic fruits and vegetables, the
elimination of chemically-tainted harmful
clogging foods in the diet, and colonic
purging and cleansing. NatureGem
recommends avoiding gluten (although normally good for you) for 1-2 years to
allow the villi in the gut to repair themselves. Whole grains that are
gluten-free include spelt, quinoa (pronounced Keen-wa), oats, brown rice, wild
rice, amaranth, and corn.
According to a recent study by
the Partnership for Solutions, a Johns Hopkins project, nearly have of the
population currently lives with some type of chronic condition, and rapid
continued growth is expected. About 60 million Americans live with
multiple chronic conditions, and an estimated 3 million Americans have five such
conditions.
Almost 1.5 billion pounds of
pesticides are sprayed on wheat and vegetable crops in the U.S. each year.
That’s more than five pounds for every person! According to experts, only 2%
of this actually serves to protect the crops while the air, water and the food
itself absorbs the other 98%. (Over 110 different kinds of chemicals are used on
apples alone.)
In most cities the water
contains over 700 chemicals while 10,000 different chemicals are used in food
processing and preservation. The average American is exposed to 50,000 chemical
agents in his lifetime and only a fraction of these have been studied for their
effects on humans. There have been no studies at all showing the consequences of
using these agents in varying combinations with each other.
According to the EPA in 2002, "Indoor air pollution consistently ranks as one of the top 5 environmental
threats to public health facing the nation today.” It is estimated that 20 to 35
percent of American office workers suffer from "building related
illness," costing the U.S. economy about $30 billion a year.
The
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates that 45,000,000 Americans drink
tap water that's contaminated with chemicals, lead, germs, parasites, bacteria
and other impurities.
Analyses of human fat, mother's milk, blood,
breath, semen and urine demonstrate that everyone - not just those living near
major pollution sources - now carries a "body burden" of toxic
organochlorines in his or her tissues. At least 190 organochlorines, including
dioxins, PCBs and DDT, have been identified in the tissues and fluids of the
general population of the U.S. and Canada. Hundreds more are present, but have
not been chemically characterized. Organochlorines have been linked to immune
system suppression, falling sperm counts and infertility, as well as learning
disabilities in children. More than 100 organochlorines cause cancer in
laboratory animals or humans.
Worm parasites are more common than most people
expect, and they are listed as The Center for Disease Control's #1 Health Risk.
According to numerous studies, nearly 85% of Americans have parasites in their
bodies. Parasites can remain undetected for years. A common side
affect is the poor absorption of critical nutrients for growth potentially
leading to anemia, growth problems, and a weakened immune function creating
susceptibility for disease. According to numerous books, parasites are commonly
found in people with AIDS, chronic fatigue syndrome, candidiasis, and many other
disorders. Symptoms may include abdominal pains, diarrhea, anemia, cardiac
insufficiency, nausea, perianal & perineal pruritis, dysentery, amebic
hepatitis, weight loss, intestinal toxemia, colic and cirrhosis. Read
more about parasites and natural treatments.
According to the Earth Summit
Report, issued in 1992, the levels of soil based minerals in North America have
dropped over 85% in the last 100 years. Assuming that our ancestor's diet used
to contain trace silver, and that our diet probably has greatly reduced levels,
there is a reasonable argument for supplementing with colloidal
silver. Two
teaspoons of 5 ppm colloidal silver provides about 50 mcg of silver and could be
considered a "nutritional" amount, if taken on a daily basis. Any
amount above four teaspoons a day or 100 mcg should be considered a
"therapeutic" amount. "When colloidal silver is ingested
and absorbed into the body, the small positively charged silver particles begin
to flow in and permeate all the bodily fluids. Wherever the silver comes in
contact with a single-celled organism like a virus, fungi or bacterium, the
silver disables a specific enzyme that these creatures need to metabolize
oxygen; In effect they can't breath and within a few minutes they suffocate and
die." Read
