This page is a dedication to all who have a fascination with these large, exotic reptiles.

ALL WRAPPED UP!

Large yet harmless!

This is a Burmese Python. Truly a "gentle giant" among large reptiles! It - as well as its smaller cousin, the Ball Python - are EXCELLENT pets................

..... PROVIDING....

.... one is willing to be prepared for a "long-term" pet, that could easily outlive your cat or dog!

This python shown (the Burmese) can reach great lengths, and will soon be big enough to eat pigs and goats......... although rabbits are usually preferred, and sometimes chickens (while the Ball Python usually stays small enough to eat rats).

In the wild -

- how can such a large-moving slow creature catch something as agile as a rabbit?

By sitting PERFECTLY STILL!

When hungry, the snake waits - usually near a well-used animal trail - and when ground vibration indicates an approaching animal, two cleverly-designed features of the snake "kick in". (Believe it or not, a snake will often sit there for several weeks before moving, after laying in wait for food)!

Usually under the total cover of darkness, the special "heat sensors" (pits) in the face work "in stereo" to show the snake just how BIG an animal is, plus the tongue also "tells" the snake if its "safe" food........ or to wait for the NEXT one! In reality the eyesight of the snake is rather poor, and depends almost entirely upon these other senses to help it feed!

After a good meal, the snake will hide for a long period of time.
