June Gathering
Join us on Wednesday June 19th for
our monthly get-together and swap, 6-8 pm at McLane Elementary School (200 Delphi Rd. SW in Olympia). This month’s topic is “A Full Set:
Designing a storytelling program.” Do
you have any tips or tricks that you use to build your storytelling
programs? Any successes or interesting
feedback from audience members on the way you put together a string of tales? Or maybe you have some feedback about some
of our recent events and how tales were placed in the programs. We’ll also swap stories and have a final
business-y check in before we part ways for the summer. Latecomers and diners are welcome!
June 14th: “Spring Fling,” An evening of storytelling
at the Carriage House, 7-9 pm
June 19th, our OSG monthly
gathering: (see above)
August 3rd: Stories in the Park, Stories in the Dark
September 18th Monthly Gathering: “Storytelling Revivals.” This year marks the 30th
anniversary of the National Storytelling Festival in Jonesboro, Tennessee. We’ll celebrate by watching a fabulous video
of their 10th anniversary festival, and have a chance to talk about
the revival of storytelling as an art form in this country as well as this
community.
October 16th Monthly
Gathering: “Trick or Treat.” A “grab-bag” of storytelling ideas and
issues. Have a question? Want to know more about a particular aspect
of tale-telling? Come join our open forum
discussion!
November 20th Monthly Gathering: “Talkin’ Turkey.” Bring
your storytelling bloops and blunders for a celebration of the learning
process.
On Friday June 14th, the OSG will
present an “enchanting evening for attentive listeners and lovers of
stories.” Check out our poster on the
opposite side of this letter, and come on down! Also, will those who volunteered to bring refreshments give
Rebecca a call if she hasn’t already tracked you down? (866-6308) Thanks!
Remember, Anne Marie Schaefer is this year’s
coordinator for this event with Olympia Parks, Arts, and Recreation. For those of you who are new to the guild,
the evening is broken into 2 parts. The
first part is for families, including young children. After intermission, it’s time for the creepy spooky stuff! You can reach Anne Marie at 754-7568 to
volunteer your talents, either telling or providing other support (publicity,
etc.).
No Newsletter?
Don’t panic if you don’t see a newsletter from
the Storytelling guild until September.
You’re mail is NOT getting lost.
I’m just taking a break for the summer.
You should receive a reminder about Stories in the Park, Stories in the
Dark, and I’ll have a newsletter winging it’s way to you in enough time to get
everyone excited about the September Monthly Gathering.
Please get in touch with one (or more) of us
with any questions, ideas, concerns, etc. that you may have!
