TELLABRATION!
2001
The big news
for November is that Tellabration is happening! Join us Friday November 9th
for our annual celebration of storytelling for grownups. The tales will start at 8PM at Traditions
Café (located at the corner of 5th and Water in downtown Oly). The cost is $5, or $3 for seniors and
students. This year’s performers are
Edna Price, Rebecca Hom, Blayne Borden, Anne-Marie Schafer, and myself with
Mike Lince as Master of Ceremonies. The
line-up of stories looks great! Hope to
see you there. For more tales, the Mt.
Tahoma Storytelling Guild will be having their Tellabration on Saturday,
November 17th, 7:30 PM at the Antique Sandwich Co. (5102 North Pearl
St. in Tacoma). Tickets are $5, and our
very own Rebecca Hom and Elizabeth Lord will be telling! Call Joy Ross (253-922-0459) or Pam Thompson
(253-752-8880) for more information.
The 2nd
Wednesday !?
This month’s
gathering and swap will be on the 2nd Wednesday rather than the 3rd
due to Thanksgiving. So, come one and
all for our monthly get together on Wednesday November 14th from 6-8
pm at McLane Elementary School. (200
Delphi Rd. SW in Oly). Rebecca will
present: “Getting Into It” An evening
of story games and imagination exercises that will help you make your stories
come alive. Afterwards, we’ll swap some
tales. Bring some snacks if you’d like
to nibble or munch (or even a brown bag dinner!), and let one of us on the
steering committee know if you need a ride or would like to carpool.
Here’s a
look at what’s ahead for our guild gatherings:
December 19th: Join us for a Winter
Holiday Party; a joyful celebration of the season and stories.
January 16th: Doing Your Part: Finding and telling audience participation
stories.
Here are the
topics we’ve lined up for 2002:
February: Love Stories? Why we tell.
March: Cultural Tales: How to be centered in a culture so as to
tell tales truly
April: Family and Personal
Stories: From anecdote to well crafted
tale
May: Professional
Dilemmas: Charging fees, marketing,
artistic integrity, and other challenges for storytellers
June: A Full Set:
How to design a storytelling program.
During last
month’s meeting, we shared our favorite books, tapes, and other info. As it turns out, the guild has quite a few
audiotapes that we can loan out to members.
So, starting in November, folks who would like to borrow any of these
guild resources can “check them out” of our own little guild library at our
monthly gatherings. Those of us at the
October meeting wondered if we might not want to use some guild funds to add
useful resources to our “library.” If
you have thoughts, ideas, or items you’d like to suggest for such a pool of
storytelling resources, let us know!
Please get
in touch with one (or more) of us with any questions, ideas, concerns, etc.
that you may have!
